My Dog was returned with none of her behavioral issues addressed. Brian was more interested in selling me food & dog toys not fixing the problem with my dog.
Brian brags about his "pack" training your dog, it's obvious that only his "pack" of dogs did any work at all. She came home with the exact same issues she left with and all Brian offered was to try working with her at his home. It was made clear to Brian from day 1 that our problem only existed in our home but Brian assured us his methods would work.
Brain totally FAILED at the cost of over $2500!!!
Needless to say we knew we needed professional help. My husband and I researched several trainers, and we chose Canine Behavioral Services because we felt Brian had the experience and credentials that we were looking for, and his reviews were fantastic. Once we contacted Brian we were impressed by his professionalism his responses were prompt, thorough, and informative. We also liked how, unlike other trainers we contacted, Brian's program would be custom designed for our specific needs. Rather, than a one size fits all approach.
Initially we had selected the In Home Training package. When Brian arrived at our house we were completely blown away. All that I can say is that and quot;the force is strong with this oneand quot;. Brian is like Yoda for dogs. Lucy would normally be going bananas when someone came in the house. Not this time, in Brian's presence, she was a well behaved little angel not putting one paw out of line.
I liked Brian's direct and honest manner. He is a straight-shooter who tells it like it is. We decided to enroll Lucy in the Inpatient Basic Manners and Obedience Program where she would go stay with Brian and his pack of dogs for thirty days. We were confident in Brian's abilities, but it was still hard to see Lucy go. Fortunately, Brian and his staff kept us totally in the loop. We received updates and pictures via email and Facebook, and were even offered the option to check up on Lucy via Skype. The entire CBS staff is awesome! They love what they do and it totally shows in how they interact with the dogs and the humans! I should note that Brian did not charge us for the initial visit (before we decided to switch to the In-Patient Program) and we still received two more at home training sessions after Lucy completed her stay with Brian and and quot;the packand quot;.
At the halfway point we visited Lucy, and it was incredible to see how much progress she had made in just a few weeks. You could actually see that she was more confident. She was not edgy and panicked, she was having the time of her life with the pack. It is worth mentioning that the majority of the dogs that are part of the pack are rescues and quot;problem dogsand quot; that no one wanted. They have been successfully rehabilitated and now help train other dogs. Seriously, what is better than that?
After Lucy completed her Inpatient Program we had two more and quot;human trainingand quot; sessions in our home with our whole family. Brian patiently instructed us and answered all of our questions. To be honest, we did have to make quite a few changes. Nonetheless, you cannot argue with the results. Lucy's overall behavior is greatly improved, she walks well on a leash, and no longer barks and growls when we have visitors. Is Lucy perfect? No, but she is much calmer, happier, and confident.
Brian provided invaluable guidance regarding crating, nutrition, and all other facets of dog care. All of the progress that Lucy has made has not been reliant on any special equipment or inhumane methods. If you are going to enlist the services of a competent dog trainer, be prepared, because it can be somewhat expensive. I found Brian's rates to be competitive, and actually better than most because we can continue to contact him with any questions or concerns for the lifetime of our dog.
Canine Behavioral Services is a first rate establishment, and I would not hesitate to recommend their services to anyone looking to enlist to the services of a qualified experienced dog trainer.
"Thank you for your kind words [member name removed]. From the very 1st Session, it was obvious that you were a natural dog leader. From you no-nonsense attitude, clearly evident confidence and your innate leadership skills - all it took for us to succeed was to provide you with the skills and knowledge needed for you to show Cadee that you actually understand her and can now communicate in a "language" that she would clearly comprehend. Along with your girlfriend - you two will be the greatest Leaders for your growing dog pack. The world is now your "oyster"! Keep up the great work and your commitment will be rewarded for years to come. Thanks again!"
It was clear to me during our first consultation that Brian understands dogs at a level that most trainers don’t. His approach doesn’t just rely on clickers, treats, special collars, etc. It’s really about helping your dog find balance by developing the right relationship
between dog and human and presenting the right kind of energy. Those other methods may be tools in the process, but it is ultimately the relationship between human and dog that creates balance.
After my initial consultation with Brian, I decided to send my dog, Scout, to Brian’s “in patient” program. Scout lived with Brian and his “pack” for 6 weeks, and he came home anentirely different dog. But even more important than training my dog, Brian then stared training *me*.
There is no doubt that Brian can resolve any behavioral issue your dog has. But in order for these changes to become permanent, you need to change many of your behaviors as the owner. In my case, I was absolutely not being the leader, which was the root of my dog’s issues. When Scout came home, I had to make A LOT of changes to the way I dealt with my dog. I won’t lie, it was a
tough adjustment at first. But Brian gave me the chance for a “do over,” and I wasn’t going to blow it.
And let me tell you, it was so worth it. I now have the relationship with my dog that I always wanted to have. His resource
guarding issues are behind us; he is no longer leash reactive; I can take him to dog parks and he has a blast; and most importantly, I learned how to be his leader. I am so much happier, and if Scout could talk, I think he would tell you that he is happier too.
What’s also really important here is that Brian is always there to support you. The re-homing process takes a lot of adjustment for you as the owner. Your progress won’t happen in a straight line, because it is a significant adjustment for both you and your dog. Brian is ALWAYS there for your, he responds very promptly and thoroughly to any of your questions or concerns. He doesn’t just drop your dog off and then disappear. He genuinely wants to make sure that you and your dog succeed for the long-term.
Brian has allowed me to have a relationship with my dog that I never thought I could have. Scout and I aren’t perfect, and we work on it every day, but the progress we have made is mind blowing. I know that some people think that overly glowing reviews are fakes. I can assure you that this is not. Brian Manning is the real deal. I am more than happy to speak to anyone who is considering Brian’s services, just ask him for my email address.
"[member name removed] - your commitment to following our instructions is awe-inspiring. You are such a great Packleader - and Scout is so, so very lucky to have someone like you in his life. When an owner, such as yourself, takes the time to apply the skills and knowledge we taught - it's almost impossible for you to ever see the negative side of Scout again. You are a wonderful Packleader and person and I just know the future with your lovely dog Scout will be bright and full of fun! Take care and don't forget the 3 C's - be Calm, Confident and Consistent. Thanks again!"
Throughout my dog’s stay I stayed in touch with Brian at least weekly where I would hear of her progress. Brian was always very honest with his evaluations, recommendations, and training techniques for my dog. It was not always easy to hear, especially because I learned that I was the reason for her lack of respect, but listening to the truth is what I needed to hear. Brian would send pictures through email and post some to his social media pages which helped me while my dog was away.
When Brian brought the dog back home he patiently showed my husband, my mother, and me how to change our relationship to one that was more leader/follower based so that my dog would respect us more. At the same time Brian showed us how to keep the dog in a calmer state of mind. Of course there are and will be triggers that will excite her but now we have the tools to calm her back down. My mother who often cares for the dog felt very empowered after learning simple techniques to show the dog that she is the leader.
It has been a few months since my dog has been home from her rehabilitation and every day is a work in progress. She is far from being perfect but she is calmer and more stable than she was before her rehab with Brian. We have settled into a new routine way of life with her, which feels normal by now but it is much different than how we used to treat our dog. One of the largest things I learned is that I have to give the dog what she needs - like boundaries, discipline, and exercise, not what I think she (or really us humans) wanted – like tons of affection and being treated like a person.
If you have any issue with your dog I would highly recommend Canine Behavioral Services. Brian along with other trainers and his pack of balanced dogs will make a difference. Brian and his staff are professionals and it shows. It will be an investment financially and emotionally but if you follow through you will not be disappointed. But, if you don’t change then you cannot expect your dog to change either. Finally, even months after our official training has ended, I am encouraged to contact Brian with any questions/concerns I may have, and true to his fashion I always receive quick and honest responses.
