Awful. I have a driving permit but lack practice. I am 39 years old. I am also scared of driving. I told this to the instructor as soon as I was in the car. My long term goal was to eventually manage to drive certain routes. To my surprise, he asked me to drive to one of the most dangerous destinations in the first lesson (from Cumberland to Brown University). The lesson was terrifying. There was a lot of snow in the ground (we had this lesson on January 2, 2008), and he kept asking me to go fastest and not to look at traffic in other lanes. I said several times that he was overestimating my ability to drive, but he kept me going. Eventually, I asked him to direct me back home. Several times during the 30 minute lesson I felt at risk of an accident. Any sensible teacher would have simply realized that the goal was too difficult at that stage (and with routes full of snow), but he kept going. Towards the end I felt so anxious that I could not longer distinguish left from right. I told him that the lesson was not working for me. That I did not feel safe. He answered: "do not pay attention to whether you are feeling safe or not, simply do what I tell you". When I tried to start the lesson again, I told him that my goal was to EVENTUALLY go to one of those destinations, after a long process. When I mentioned that I was also a teacher, the instructor said: "you know what, I do not feel like doing this anymore". I never refused to pay him, in fact I was going to do it. But he was so mad that he yelled me that he had been a police officer in the past, and threw me out of the car. He said that he was going to report me for bad driving and get my license removed. So, if you have a license already, do not hire this guy. If he does not like you, he might try to get the license away from you! When people hire a driving instructor, they are already aware that they need to improve their driving. Any driving instructor reporting his own students for bad driving is simply going to scare away potential customers. It works like a blackmail: either take my lessons, or else get in trouble...What a nightmare! This man is 100% ego trip, and 0% pedagogical skills. Avoid this school. You might get into a bad accident.
