"Cyr Painting and Construction- Hire them now! I can’t say enough great things about John Cyr and his team. Some background… I just started to rent out my house, and after the rain/ freeze storms in late December and January, one of the bedroom ceilings showed signs of a leak! The renter was feeling around, and poked a hole through the damaged drywall. After seeing the damage I started researching contractors to repair the ceiling and maybe fix the flashing around the chimney. I used google and Angie's List. I contacted several people through both. Just about everyone returned my calls or email. However most told me they couldn't get to the work till April or May, and most wouldn’t come out and give me an estimate. John Cyr’s office got in touch with me, and set up and in person meeting at the house the very next day for a free consultation! I met John, and he went over all the different signs of water damage that he saw besides just the visible ceiling marking. He was very upfront in stating that an estimate without seeing the damage behind the drywall would be a guess. He was able to get one of his guys to come over and take the affected drywall down to investigate. It turns out he had to take good portion of the ceiling down and the wall. He just kept pulling drywall down in 12 inch increments to see how far the water damage went. It turned out to be extensive. The water damage extended from part of the roof down to the basement level all along the chimney. It turns out that there was no flashing installed behind chimney and water has been wreaking havoc on the structure. After seeing the initial inspection Cyr provided a quote. He told me that we need to do this in stages due to the damage and things that are still unseen. First thing was removing and reshingling a portion of the roof, reinstall cricket and fix flashing around chimney on the affected side of the house. The game plan he provided was to remove the siding (Vinyl & Wood) and fix the sheathing issues from the outside. Once the siding was removed he would be able to inspect for more damage and provide us another estimate. After the siding was removed it was established that portions of the sheathing, studs, sub floor, floor joists, top plate and header all had to be replaced. This was a very technically challenging job! At each step we received a quote for the work, this was great as we could plan for what was to come. All the quotes were detailed and fair for the amount of work that was required. I am very impressed with John Cyr and his team for the work they accomplished. They were able to get started quickly, within a week, to make it right. The job site was kept clean every day, as the tenants were still living in the house as the work was being done. The upfront talk about having to investigate first to see the extent of damage was forthright. There was no hidden costs, the plan was clearly defined, and was updated as new information became available. John communicated with the tenants to explain what happened, and what he had to do to fix the problem and when his team would be at the house. The fact that he would take this on, freed up my time, and made sure there was no communication problems. I can’t say enough about how John’s communication with me about EVERY step of what was happening allowed me not to stress out so much. He had to talk me down a few times! That is worth its weight in gold! Overall I am very pleased with the timeline, communication, quality of work and costs. "Mario did a fantastic job painting our new nursery - walls, trim and ceiling. After having a cancellation with another service provider earlier in the week, we contacted Mario and he came out next day to assess and quote the room. Two days later he was here to do the work - on time and on the budget we discussed. He came prepared with all of his equipment, showed us the paint color to confirm before he started and got right to work and finished in half a day! He was extremely personable and professional and we would highly recommend him for any job. We hope to work with Mario again the future!"

"Will is a good guy, who means well, and he tries hard to please, but he is a bit careless, and does not have a lot of experience with other than routine tasks.  And he refused to accept responsibility for a major mistake.
I hired Will to paint the ceiling in my living room, hall, and 3 bedrooms.  There was a good deal of water damage in some of the rooms, and a few dents in the ceilling.  He did not quite capture the technique to match the texture of the ceiling, but with some prodding and my suggestions, he kept redoing it until he got it right, generally
Apparently he never quite got the technique, because we went thru the same drill in each of the rooms.  Most came out ok after a few corrections, which he performed only when prodded. 
There was a bit of an issue of neatness.  He managed to get a light spatter of paint on a few pieces of furniture that were uncovered, and on the floor (I did manage to get it off relatively easily, but it should have been better protected).  He threw a used drop cloth over my bed when painting the ceiing, and I found the bed covered with a "dandruff" of dried paint chips.  He had painted the whole living room and hall before i noticed that he had got paint on all the walls.  He said "Oh, I thought you were going to paint the walls"... Well, I did paint them, but I had not been planning on it.
When he went to do the bedrooms, I told him that I was not planning on painting them, so could he please tape the walls before painting. Unfortunately, one of the rooms was wallpapered, so it really did need masking.  It took nearly 2 weeks to finish that room (he was sick, then I was away...) and when he got done, and pulled the tape off, the top of the wallpaper came off with it.  Not just in one spot, but all the way around the room, a colossal mess.  When I asked his what he was going to do to do to fix it, his response was "Me, fix it??? it was your idea to use tape!!"  Of course, he is no longer working on this job...  As he was packing his stuff out, he had the nerve to claim that I fired him just because I did not want to pay him.
Actually, after repeated efforts, the work that Will did came out fine (except for things like destroying my wallpaper).  Some rather severe water damage and dents were successfully covered up.  I really have become quite fond of Will, and hope he finds his niche.  But he does need to use more care, and to take responsibility for his mistakes.

Sadly, he can't do it all, so I have to turn to contractors I don't know and then, (yes even those with high paid ratings on Angie's List) I get lousy results and outrageous prices. So, sometimes, when I'm feeling defeated, I just come to Angie to look at the New England House Doctor's reviews to remember that there are good and decent people out there. So, thanks, Roland! And, Roland - remember - you need to remove the mattress and boxspring and paint the porch (already paid you!)"

"Everyone we dealt with was very nice. The painters arrived on time and were hard workers. The quote was to power wash, prime (with a heavy duty Mad Dog primer) and apply two coats of paint, however, I believe only one coat of paint was applied. I brought this up with the owner and the workers insist they put on two coats of paint, but some of the original paint showed through in spots. This means they would have had to miss the same spots each time they applied a coat of paint. The trim and siding they replaced was done well. This work was done in September of 2015 and I was assured the paint would last at least a few years. They told me the Mad Dog primer would take care of any problem areas. Unfortunately, the paint is already peeling in some areas. I sent multiple emails to the company over the past two weeks and left a voice mail. I have yet to be contacted by anyone. This is very disappointing."

"Seamless. That's the word that describes both working with Jurgen at Epic Finish as well as his work installing some tricky wallpaper in a tricky spot, as well as in interior painting. A consummate gentlemen, Jurgen was fast to respond, offered a very fair price, and when I hired him, he gave his all to the project. Neat, conscientious, and a man of his word, Jurgen is everything you want when a contractor comes into your home. The project included wallpapering a bar that had been converted from a closet--and of course I picked a tricky pattern. The final job exceeded my expectations. Again, seamless. I also had him paint a guest bathroom. Here too, I picked a difficult color to cover an entirely different cover. And again, the final product is stunning. I'm already discussing future jobs with Epic--and I have to say, I'm excited about working with Jurgen again because I know the work will be in good hands. Five stars all around.
