There is no doubt that their deliveries of oil per the automatic delivery program are just fine. the service is ok, although you must schedule many months in advance for a burner cleaning. The problem is the price they charge per gallon for home heating oil. This past year, when the price of oil was really low, I expected the price I was paying to be low also. Nope, because I was on a "service and auto delivery plan", I had a HUGE surcharge tacked on to the price per gallon. Although the service contract has a "high" per gallon cap and there is no low cap, it says that there will be a "slight" surcharge on the price per gallon. Slight??? It was way over a dollar per gallon!!!! I paid hundreds of dollars more for oil this past year than I should have due to this. I have decided that this year I am going to ditch them, order oil from a local company and find someone who does burner service just when I need it.

We used them for two years. They were responsive and always came when you needed. Their price of oil was killing us. They were regularly significantly higher than the state average for oil. They weren't ever average, but close to the top end every single time. So we switched providers.

The initial year was great. However each year the prices continued to climb higher and higher both for the service plan and for the heating oil. We finally called to cancel and to our disappointment we came home one day to a slip on the door that our tank had been filled and a $500 bill. Their cost per gallon was 60 cents higher than anyone else so it made it even more frustrating.
We called up and they said the reason they charge so much is for the auto delivery. I would have assumed that auto delivery would give you a better rate, as until then we'd been locked in with them getting oil whenever they wanted to send it to us. But no, they said it cost extra. After explaining we did call to cancel they said we only canceled the service plan not the auto delivery. Which wasn't clear when we first called.
In the end they did some price changing based on unused service plan time and reduced that $500 oil bill to a $100 bill. The whole thing was frustrating and I can't justify the price difference.

In addition to the service problem stated above. My real problem is with their fuel prices. I had the same problem as the previous review. My last tank of fuel was charged at $4.59 per gallon. when i called to complain all I was told is that the prices change every day . I have since spoken with customer service again and they were more forthcoming this time. Bottom line; shop around and review the State of RI's website that provides a weekly survey of Heating oil prices. This will help you identify if the price you are being asked to pay is significantly above /below the average.

The company used to be ok--or at least it seemed so.  There service guys were prompt, friendly, and efficient.  In the past couple of years or so their prices for oil got out of hand.  Last year we threatened to drop them and they dropped prices and "gave" us a year of service."  This year there prices were the highest in Rhode Island--also there service department failed to follow through on a issue that we requested aid programing and sorting out a Buderus Logitech controller.
This year when I called to question an Oil bill of 4.49 a gallon, (the going rate by a local full service competitor that day was 3.69) the accounts specialist out right misrepresented (one might say lied) how oil prices were set.  She indicated that the prices were set by the state of Rhode Island.  I asked for clarification on this several ways.  She was referring to the daily list published by the state reporting different prices, but made it seem as though it was an official dictate.   The price they charged matched the highest anyone was charging that day.  Again---this it was clearly official policy to bamboozel customers.  They will say anything to keep you and god help those who may not have computer access or the education to catch what were tantamount to lies.  I can accept being overcharged honestly--but calculated misrepresentation is another matter.  Days after I spoke with the representative Petro called back (actually several times) and offered much lower prices that we had been offered on day one (still high mind you, but lower).  Basically, they are set to gouge you as much as they can on a case by case basis.
Other than the last go around, the service has be reliable and efficient--I offer my thanks to the guys who were kind and diligent over the years with us.  Sorry you have to work for crooks.
