Herb was the first person in my house, other than me, since March. He wore a mask and was very courteous about the fact that I am "elderly and compromised" and worried about Covid 19. He did everything quickly and found ways to fix things that were less invasive and therefore less expensive than I expected. I was pleased with his communication and punctuality and it seems everything was done well.

Herb installed a front door and hardwood floor for us. He was very fair, dependable, and professional. He worked very hard and had to repair others mistakes of contractors we hired previously but was faithful to his original estimate. He did a fantastic job and our house looks great!

First day he worked on one side of the house filling the cracks with ready to use cement. Second day worked half day he finished scraping off the loose paint did some more corking around the foundation not though job as they were gaps in between that were not filled. And there was still loose debris on the foundation that needed to be removed. He came back 6 days later in the afternoon of course I told him that the job that he promised he could do was not what I paid him for. That’s when he told me that the foundation could not be painted, after all this back and forth....I told him to leave. Unprofessional, he should have stated this when he came to look at the job and said he could repair. He gave me a price of 950.00 with a 400.00 deposit to hold the date so he could come because I wanted the job to be done before Memorial Day. Of course I wanted some of my money back he said that was labor and material which he could only supply 1 receipt of 13 dollars. I paid 400 did not get anything out of it. Lesson learned, next time get a referral for any jobs. Very disappointed, never had an experience like this will not use this app again.
Response from Herb Travis Handyman Services
"It's a shame that this situation happened. The cement work I performed alone, was worth $700.00, plus, the 5 - plus buckets of cement mix, and a total over 15hrs into the job. Basically, the job was "written up" as.... 1.) " Chip away loose debris from foundation" 2.) " Fill holes in foundation with Quikrete cement." 3.) " Paint 2 coats of "Drylok" over cement. I spent the whole first day, filling the concrete on the customers house. There were huge sections of missing concrete. It is a physical, long day, mixing 7-9 buckets, which set very quickly, so you have to use it right away, (3 min or so). I have pictures of the shoddy caulk all around the house. I spent time peeling and scraping that off also. When I started chipping the foundation, I began questioning whether or not the Drylok was going to eventuallty peel the entire surface of paint. Myself being a Handyman, have not come accross this particular dilemna in the past. So after trying to wire brush a section, I realized the customer was going to have to get a cement expert, to rectify the surface properly. I, for a labor total of $950, did not have the means to efficiently remove all the paint properly, to complete the task. So I spoke with the customer, and told her I recommended having a cement "expert" come in to properly coat the foundation. I also said she did not owe me any money, ( 15 hrs into the job, 3 trips, plus $100 ish in materials.. I have receipts) She had given me a $400.00 deposit, so she was not owed anything. She got very upset with me, because she knew the cost will be much more than she thought it would be. Somehow, that was my fault...being honest isnt easy, but it makes me sleep well at night."

Herb did a great job. His responses were always timely and clear. He properly diagnosed and fixed issues that others either did not understand or did not take the time to do right. The price was very fair, and the quality was excellent. I hope to work with him again in the future.

Herb was responsive prior to scheduling job with estimate and reviewing materials (pictures) to provide an estimate. He gave a range for the service cost. Job went smooth and completed as promised overcoming a number of obstacles with fitting the new window. Final cost for her services were at the lower end of the pre-job estimate. See before and after pictures below.

It went well except for the fact that they tore up a separate section that was a separate wooden section. I didn't realize it until work was done. My main issue is that I have two large pieces of wood with nails sticking out. One piece I could return to its original place but it is too heavy for me to do on my own.

Herb was very prompt in his response and project updates and was able to take care of a few minor home repairs I could not do myself. He was professional and completed the job as discussed. He charges by the job plus materials and provides an itemized bill..

We needed a new tub carried up to our third floor. I spoke with Herb on the phone and answered all his questions; I told him the tub weighed 200 lbs. He agreed to send some guys the next morning to carry it upstairs for $150. The guys who came were nice and accomplished the job. I paid them and they left. A few hours later, I received a call from Herb wanting another $150. He said that I never told him it was a jacuzzi tub and that $150 was only for a "regular tub". I reminded him that I told him the tub was 200 lbs. He claimed it was 300 lbs; I'm not sure how he could ascertain that since he wasn't present when the work was performed. Plus, the bill of lading from the shipping company showed the tub weighed 196 lbs. He hung up the phone in a huff. He was very unprofessional.
Response from Herb Travis Handyman Services
"When we initially spoke on the phone, there was no mention of a jacuzzi tub. It would have been $250 if he had told me it was a jacuzzi tub. This is what you take on by doing small jobs, but it won't deter me. Thank you to all concerned."

Awful. This guy is dishonest. and a bs artist. He punched a hole in a wall while trying to hang a small object. Said he'd come back to repair it when he had time. Sound like a make-good, right? When I finally got him to agree to a time, he wanted $100 to repair the damage he made! He said he does not accept responsibility for damages. What??? I am new to this area and hired this man based on his reviews which I obviously regret. Incidentally, he would not take a credit card and insisted on cash or check, which I was told AFTER the job was done. I paid him in full and shouldn't have until the repair was made. Get someone else who's honest and will do the job for half the price in half the time!!!!
Response from Herb Travis Handyman Services
"Well, this is actually a case of people trying to take advantage of my business. As I recall, she was very friendly. Everybody knows in this business that to drive any vehicle to anyone's house, is a minimum of $100. Even for the smallest things. I was at her house for three and a half hours, not including driving there and back. I hung at least 10 pictures, assembled a computer system, moved several tables around, and was more than helpful. When I was done, I told her the amount, which was more than fair to begin with, and she talked me down. I agreed, figuring that it is a relationship between a customer and a service provider that I will be doing several more things for her in the future. So I had no problem working with her. While attempting to hang one fixture on a certain part of her wall, I explained to her, that her walls were horsehair plaster-very fragile, and it could make the hole too big for any anchors. So, after trying several ways to make this work, a hole developed that was too big to insert any type of anchors. I told her that when I came back, I would patch the hole for her, and do a few more things. I really don't understand it, but I know nobody else goes to her house for free. Herb Travis. ps. I have copies of the actual invoice."

Herb was professional and worked for many hours until the job was done correctly. I am in the process of 100% redoing the bathroom studs-up, and needed a new fan installed. There was never one installed before, and Herb knew what to do to correctly and safely install the fan, vent hose, and the outside vent. He also took existing wiring that ran to an unused baseboard heater above the bathroom, cut the wire, installed a junction box, and ran new 12/2 wire throughout the bathroom, drilling through the wall studs to conceal the wire behind drywall. He installed a new GFCI outlet, a junction for a vanity light when I am ready to install one, and a switch for the fan and a switch for the vanity. I am satisfied with the results.

I supplied the faucets, Herb's team supplied the labor and know-how. The job came in at the estimated price plus an extra $40 for parts needed, and everything is in good working order. Herb was very responsive and even got his team to arrive earlier to accommodate my schedule.
