Although I signed a contract, he never emailed me a copy of it as he had promised, so I don't know what it said.
Although my own (highly rated) electrician came quickly and did the work needed to disconnect electric, Clean Care called in their own electrician to "review the work" (which didn't need reviewing.) The city inspector called a few minutes later, annoyed because two electricians had pulled permits for the exact same job.
Next, although both electricians agreed the furnace could be turned back on in a matter of 2 days, Clean Care's plumber came in without my authorization or knowledge and yanked out a key pipe in the heating system so the furnace could not be turned back on. They also appear to have broken off the city water meter in my basement. So, the house has sat, completely frozen for two weeks and nobody can do any more work because it's too cold. I do not know yet if two weeks of Arctic temperatures inside have damaged any of my belongings.
Clean Care did put a generator in my driveway to run big fans and dehumidifiers on each floor of the house for a week. This was idiotic and a wasted expense because apparently the dehumidifiers don't work if the temperature is under 60 degrees!
Clean Care ceased answering our phone calls. So we called the private insurance adjuster who they strongly recommended I use, Craig Martin. Craig said he could coordinate between us. He said Clean Care told him a dumpster would be placed in my driveway by the day after Martin Luther Kind Day so that demolition could start. However nothing happened.
My own contractors had changed their work schedules so they could jump in to reconstruct the damaged areas the minute the demo was done. Now their work crews were sitting on their hands waiting. I was also waiting -- I only had a few belongings I'd grabbed when I left the house. I'd worn basically the same outfit for two weeks while waiting for all my clothes to be taken out of the house, cleaned and returned to me.
Finally yesterday, nearly two weeks after the fire and after our many, many phone messages, Ernie, the owner of Clean Care called me back. He told me he had not even seen the house yet. He promised to do a walk through in the next day or two and to get me a proposed work schedule by Thursday. This means his crew would not even be able to start until more than three weeks after the fire at the earliest!
I fired Clean Care and hired another company who said they can get a crew in by tomorrow.
I still don't know what Clean Care is going to try to ding my insurance company for, for the "work" they've done. The other cleaning commpany said we can ask for something called a "peer review" which may mitigate things.
"Clean Care responded to this fire immediately after the loss occurred and afforded emergency services. Clean Care staff immediately within 1 hr secured the property by executing a board up and then due to freezing temperatures, has the home winterized by a licensed plumber. This work included removing the water meter from the wall and draining it, so it would not freeze, as it is the insured's responsibility to protect the property from additional damage. We additionally had a licensed electrician come in and check and service any electrical hazards due to the fire and potential damage from heat and water to the live electrical service. Once this stage was completed, we applied an anti-microbial to prevent mold from growing, sporing and colonizing and installed drying equipment to triage the loss and prevent and stop water damage from the water that was sprayed during extinguishing the fire at the site. This is all standard protocol by a professional company. The process was explained to the insured and she agreed with the same. In addition, I, Ernest Pullano, personally talked to Ann and explained that she hired a public insurance adjuster and we cannot commence work until her adjuster and insurance carrier reach an agreed scope and value for the loss. We also discussed items she requested to be moved from her residence to her place of employment. Later the same day, she terminated our services. We completed all this work without any asking for any funds directly from the owner, and completed it on good faith that the insurer would pay us for our services. I am disappointed and amazed by the review, based on the fact that our entire staff and emergency responders treated her with dignity, respect and afforded top notch service to her immediately without any funds and assisted her in minimizing the damage at her residence due to a fire. In addition, we were instructed that we would only be completing the emergency services and cleaning due to the fact that she had her own contractor, who was currently under contract for replacement of the kitchen, prior to the fire loss. In fact, I had conversations with her contractor that as soon as our company was approved to complete the demolition and cleaning, we would notify him, pursuant to the homeowner's instructions, in advance, so that he could complete the repair work that she is stating was our responsibility."
"Thank you [member name removed]. I am appreciative of you posting your satisfaction Ernest Pullano President"
