the only complaint i have is with the sales staff. I knew I was buying an older model but paying full price. then I found out items such as thermostat and a fan are options. this was never explained to me when i bought the stove.
I will not deal with this distributor in the future, there are others in the area that service this brand.
The reason for the overall C rating is this. The individuals that installed the $5000+ screens initially used cheap metal pipe strap. This is not an issue if the pipe straps were invisible to the naked eye. However, that was not the case and one could clearly see the straps when walking into a room or sitting on the furniture. The silver metal from the pipe straps created a stark contrast when mated up again the custom granite we had previously installed (by another firm) in the fireplace surrounds. The installers put four metal pipe straps on the dining room fireplace, two on the living room fireplace, both of which affixed to the inside of the high gloss decorative black fireplace granite walls. What a visual disappointment, sigh.
When I arrived home that evening to inspect the finished product it looked like a fireplace belonging in a trailer park. We do not have Rockefeller type expectations, but I do liken the initial installation to attending a wedding in a t-s*** tux, dropped off by a pinto limo. My wife was home when the installation happened, so I feel to some extent the installers took advantage of her since she doesn’t know much in terms of construction. Not being there was also partially my fault so I do assume some degree of blame. I firmly believe to this day that although the rare contractor does exist nearly all things done right in this life have to be done yourself.
Later that evening I sent an email and left a phone message to the owner, Megan. The installer promptly, to their credit, called me back the next morning to discuss. During our conversation he stated he’s been installing screens in this fashion for many years and during that period of time only one other person has complained, like we are. After fielding a few other less than satisfactory customer service replies, this particular statement offended me so much that I hit my tipping point, and with Thanksgiving coming the next day and having our entire of family over to view the tacky work firsthand, that I will admit that I lost my cool for a brief moment and used a few profanities, which in retrospect I regret since that’s not in my nature. In essence, I explained to the installer that we are not needy folks, but expect a quality product, installed to our satisfaction, and as things sit at that moment the installation was incorrect and unacceptable. After some haggling, the installer agreed to delay their first morning appointment and come to our home to correct the matter. They arrived and within a hour the matter was addressed to our satisfaction.
In the end, I believe as paying customer’s issues like this should not have to be debated by the customer, and as I explained to the installers, if they would have done the job correctly the first time around, taking into account our decorative fireplace granite and hiding the straps our of plain sight, we would not have to inconvenience them or have a follow-up conversation in the first place. Our expectations are above average, we realize that, but certainly not out of this universe. My advise to anyone using this firm is this, be home when they perform the installation and if something is not to you liking make certain they correct it before leaving. When paying thousands a quality installation, and across the board A+ service should be expected.
I cannot comment on the quality of the unit or the service department as this unit was installed a few months ago in the middle of the summer.
We thought the price was steep so we called another fireplace company. Someone came out, told us that our fireplace was a wood burner and basically it cost us $85 to have it converted to a wood burner and an extra $100 for a blower.
Hearth & Home was trying to take us for ride!!!
