Modern TV & Big Screen Repair

He was quick and very professional. After ordering the part he was able to get my set up and running for a very reasonable price. All functions are working fine.

He explain to me what the problem was and what the cost would be to correct it. We mutually agreed that I should just get another television. He also hooked up a television that I had elsewhere in the house for my convenience. It was also a house call. He was very much of a gentleman.

Service was Excellent

I had a TV that was purchased in 2005 and up until mid 2015 worked great. In mid 2015 the TV started actinbg up, it wouldn't turn off or on with the remote, I would have to turn it on & off with the power button on the TV. A few weeks after that it started not turning on or off unless I unplugged it and plugged it back in, then it just wouldn't turn on at all. Due to the fact that we paid so much for the TV and I wanted to see if I could get the TV fixed for less than it would cost to replace it I called the manufacturer to see if they offered repair service. The manufacturer listed to my explanation of what was happening and said they thought it was the mother board and the part would cost about $75.00. They did not offer repair service but if I ordered the part I should be able to take it to a TV repair shop and they shopuld be able to replace the mother board for me. I started looking for TV repair shops in my area on the internet and the few that came up never answered their phones or if they did were only open M-F until 5:00, which meant that I would have to leave work several hours early in order to drop the TV off and if they were able to repair it I would have the leave early again to pick it up. I decided to join Angie's List and saw that Modern TV & Big Screen Repair had a good rating and several positive reviews so I decided to give them a call. The owner (I think his name is Mr. Tran) answered the phone himself. I explained what had been happening and he said he would be happy to take a lokk at the TV and although the manufacturer said it was probably the mother board it was very possible it could be something else entirely.  He said that there was a $20.00 non refundable deposit required for him to check out the TV which I thought was reasonable and he was open on Saturdays whcih worked great for me so we agreed on a date for me to drop the TV off. I dropped it off on 08/27/16 and he explained what he would do to evaluate the problem. He also stated that he would call me with an estimate if the repair was going to be more than $100.00 as I had explained that was about the limit I was willing to pay to fix it. He had the TV for about 2 weeks and called me to tell me it was fixed. He said he had actually fixed it a few days before he called me but kept it so he could test it multple times to make sure the problem was resolved. He said the issue was not the mother board but the internal power source and the cost for parts & labor was $100.00. I thought the price ($120.00 total) was very reasonable as the cost to replace this size Tv would have been at least $250.00 - $400.00 so I was very pleased. Mt Tran was very nice, friendly, knowledgeable and professional to deal with and I would definetly recommend him to anyone looking for quality TV repair at a fair price. He definetly made my first experience with Angie's List a very positive one.

The whole process went very well.  He was easy to get a hold of when I called.  We agreed on a day and time.  He called prior to showing up on time to let me know he was on his way.  He diagnosed the problem and gave me a couple of options to repair the problem.  He gave me an estimate on the option I chose.  He ordered the part and said it would take a few days.  He called to let me know the part was in and we set a day and time for him to come to the house.  He called prior to showing up on time and let me know he was on his way.  He replaced the bad part, we tested the TV and it was working fine.  He was great to work with, he communicated very well, he answered all my questions, and showed me what he was doing.  It was a very good experience and I would highly recommend him.  He repairs all types of appliances and not just TV's.

When Mr.  Tran played with the controls for a minute, he realized the problem right away --  it was with Comcast, not the TV.  He fixed it, and showed me how to fix it myself if it happens again.  He also explained how to tell the difference between a Comcast problem and a TV problem.  Since my other TV (also connected to Comcast) worked fine, and since the cable connection was good (I checked that, first) I thought the TV was broken.  Well worth the $40.00 service call, just for the information.  Mr. Tran arrived within an hour of my call.  Good service, nice man.

The owner came out the same day that I called, which was great. We needed a new lamp and a clip for the lamp door. I tried to fix it myself before calling Modern TV, but was unsucessful. He did a great job, very fast, and for a reasonable price. I would definately use again.

Great service. Called him on Thursday and he was there on Friday. Had the TV up and running within the hour. Repair bill was a lot better than the big companies and he was a friendly service man.

FANTASTIC! I cannot say enough good things about this business. He is prompt, knows what he is doing, very friendly, tells you what he is doing, fair priced. My tv is running great!!!!!!!! I would refer him to any and everyone needing a repair. A+++++++++

Great job! Saved my expensive set (6 year old prices)
for a very reasonable cost.

After checking price to order part from manufacturer, very expensive, he suggested ordering
part on Ebay. I ordered the part, less than half of manufacturer's price. Unlike most repairmen,
he only made money on labor and saved me much of the part mark up many repairmen would charge.
TV as good as new. Impressive!

What a great experience. I called him at 6pm, and he was here by 7pm (yes, the same day!)
He took the TV apart and barely had put the back on the ground when he said and quot;I see the problem alreadyand quot;. He pointed out the bad capacitors, and explained how he knew they were bad. He had the set repaired and back together in 30 minutes.
He said he is starting on appliances as well.
Strongly recommend him. I am glad I did not just toss the TV and buy a new one.

Highly recommend using the IN-HOME service option!!
I called to troubleshoot my TV problem. Owner was really helpful and identified my problem and offered two quotes for repairs. First quote was for and quot;in-homeand quot; service the second was for service at the and quot;shop.and quot; I chose to take my TV there and even though I saved $30, I wish I had chosen for the in-home service option. (The location of this business is not ideal, shady part of town, there is no and quot;storefrontand quot; and this guy works out of his house, which is NOT set-up to receive customers!) We carried the TV in and waited for the repairs to be completed. It was longer, much longer than was estimated and it was awkward to be there. They did, however DO a GREAT job fixing our flat screen television and saved us from having to replace it! Very nice man, treated us well and knew his business. Could not take credit cards and failed to mention that but would CERTAINLY recommend him for and quot;in-homeand quot; service calls again. TV is working great again!
