Don’t use Tate Paving. I had 36 feet of my driveway replaced. 15 years ago the entire driveway, 82 feet, was removed and replaced in one day. Tate wanted to turn it into a one week job. The first time they called to inform me when the work would be done they told me one Monday 36 feet of the driveway would be removed and a week later the new asphalt would be put down. I told them no way. This was a one day job but that Tate could take two. Tate call almost a month later and promised the work would be started on Monday and finished on Tuesday assume no rain. I told them if there was rain that the work must be completed the first rainless day. The secretary told me she would check with the supervisor and get back to me but never did so I assume we were on the same page. They showed up as promised on Monday and on Tuesday put down a thin coat of asphalt and left when it started to rain. The rain lasted 10 minutes. On Wednesday they called and said they would be back in a week

Avoid the very expensive lesson I learned when Tate’s Paving LLC completed work at my home. I hired Tate’s to repave half of my driveway closest to the garage and porch because water was draining from the driveway toward the house and porch foundation. During all conversations with Tate staff I was specific that the only reason for repaving was because water was being directed toward the house foundation. After getting several estimates which were very similar in language and cost I signed the Tate contract. Work was completed in early May 2020 and by August 2020 the new pavement was already showing signs of directing water back toward the foundation. When I called to let them know that water was already starting to move toward the foundation a manager came to the house. We completed a short water test that demonstrated water was moving toward the foundation instead of down the driveway. Comments from this manager were 1) it is not much water 2) it is not in the contract that you wanted the water to move away from the foundation. I responded that during a rainstorm there would be much more water. And, regarding the contract, I said I did not realize that I needed to tell an expert how to do their job or have industry standards included in a contract. We reached a compromise with a fix that will address the problem in the short-term but no guarantees for the long-term should the new pavement continue to sink. So, if/when you sign a contract with Tate’s you need to make sure that ALL information discussed is included in the contract to protect yourself from a similar experience.
