Ken came out and to do the estimate himself. I had planned to replace the countertops and backsplash, but not the cabinets. When Ken came to give me the estimate, he recommended that I wait on the backsplash until I replace the cabinets. This change decreased the price of the job considerably, but was the right decision. I trusted Ken immediately due to this, and he came through. His advice regarding color and layout were spot on, and it looks great!

We were very pleased with the work. There were some difficult carpentry issues that they handled very well. We had some issues with the company from which the cabinetry was purchased, and Bob and Curt were very good about pursuing a resolution for us. They are also very nice people, which makes a difference on a long, difficult project like a kitchen.

Overall, we were very satisfied with the personal attention given to our project by Ken Bloom and his crew. Ken worked with us to create a custom-designed look and helped to troubleshoot the inevitable problems that came up along the way. He was very reasonable in his prices and the necessary price adjustments, and very honest and up front in all his dealings with us. Our only complaint was with the quality of his subcontractors, whose work wasn't always adequate and sometimes had to be corrected later. On the plus side, Ken's lead in-house installer, Curtis, does exceptional work and makes sure that all the details of a project (plumbing, electricity, tiling, etc.) are of excellent quality.

I had another company install the countertop for $160.00. The job took approximately half an hour. ($600)
Response from Kitchens By Ken

"MY COMPANY SPECIALIZES IN COMPLETE KITCHEN AND BATHROOM RENOVATIONS; WE SIMPLY ARE NOT SET UP TO DO SMALL PROJECTS LIKE THIS ONE. I RESPONDED PROMPTLY AND RESPECTFULLY WITH THE BEST PRICING I COULD PROVIDE; I EVEN SENT A THANK YOU E-MAIL TO THIS CLIENT AFTER SHE TOLD US SHE WAS NOT ACCEPTING OUR PROPOSAL. FOR THE RECORD, THE SCOPE OF WORK PRESENTED TO US INCLUDED DEMOLITION AND PLUMBING CONNECTIONS; THIS SCOPE WAS INCLUDED IN THE WRITTEN PROPOSAL I SUBMITTED VIA E-MAILED. EITHER WAY, I MUST HAVE A MINIMUM FOR SMALL JOBS BECAUSE OF OVERHEAD, INSURANCE ETC. KB"

I shopped around. Ken Bloom was far and away the best of the best that came into my home. He was clear, concise and accurate. He was creative yet traditional in his design. He was available by phone and by email. He never lost touch and tracked me down a couple times when I needed to make a decision. Everything was exactly the way he described it... the only difference was that it ended up looking and functioning better (much much better) than expected.

I can't recommend this company enough. Ken Bloom was creative, helpful & responsive to my requests. The job started on time, ended on time & had no hidden extras. Ken helped me design the project & his ideas were wonderful. His foreman improved on my countertop & backsplash design. The work was first rate. His crew was polite & friendly. They were a pleasure to have in my home. The cabinets he sells are beautiful & functional. I love my new kitchen. I can't imagine this project coming together so perfectly with another contractor.

The salesman did not know anything about the work that had to be do so he would tell me things and when the workmen came to the house they had disputes about how things needed to be handled. Two months turned into 7 months and they just stopped showing up with the job still not complete. I had to spend $5000 to another contractor to correct things they installed improperly. They did not return calls, did not answer questions, and did not respond to letters. I still owe them $2000 but they don't bill me because they know their corrections would be much more costly. They installed an unleveled tile floor. None of my appliances are level, my refrigerator has to be held shut with duct tape. They told my credit card company that the problems were from "cheap appliances", which is untrue because I bought top of the line GE appliances, rather than the un-level floor. Very poor craftsmanship and very dishonest.

MR. BLOOM WAS VERY KNOWLEDGABLE ON THE AVAILABILITY OF CABINETS AND THE DIFFERENT STYLES AND VARIETIES, HOWEVER I BELIEVE THAT LARGER REMODELING JOBS WHICH INCLUDE SIGNIFICANT AMOUNTS OF LABOR ARE NOT HIS FORTE, AS HE DECLINED TO GIVE ME AN ESTIMATE (WITHOUT ANY STATED REASONS) FOR MY RENOVATIONS - THIS AFTER SPENDING AN HOUR MEASURING AND REVIEWING DRAWINGS AND 3 PAGE DETAILED STATEMENT OF WORK (WHICH HE REQUIRED PRIOR TO ATTEMPTING AN ESTIMATE.)
Response from Kitchens By Ken

"THE SIZE AND COMPLEXITY OF THIS MEMBER'S PROJECT WAS NOT THE REASON I DECLINED TO SUBMIT A BID. IN ADDITION TO HIS 3-PAGE SPEC SHEET, THERE WAS AN ADDITIONAL 2-3 PAGES OF SPECIFIC TERMS, CONDITIONS AND SCHEDULING REQUIREMENTS THAT WERE UNREALISTIC, IF NOT UNOBTAINABLE. AS I READ THESE SPECS, IT BECAME CLEAR TO ME THAT I COULD NOT ACCOMODATE ALL OF HIS SPECIFIC REQUESTS. ABOUT 2-3 DAYS AFTER OUR JOBSITE MEETING, I SENT AN E-MAIL POLITELY DECLINING TO PARTICIPATE ON HIS JOB AND WISHING HIM GOOD LUCK IN COMPLETING IT. MY SINCEREST APOLOGY FOR NOT EXPLAINING MY REASONING FOR DECLINING HIS WORK. KEN BLOOM"

I cannot express how pleased I was with this company. From start to finish, they were extremely friendly, professional and consumer-oriented. I appreciated regular communication with updated contracts and timelines. Because I was on a tight budget, I really appreciated that Ken was honest about the cost of various choices and made recommendations to save me money. The actual work (knocking down a wall, relocating pipes, plumbing, tiling, drywalling) by Curt and Ed was stellar. They showed up promptly every day, and stayed as long as necessary to finish the job. They took the time to explain the process and get my input. Also, they were respectful of keeping the rest of my home clean. In addition, they did a few things that were above the call of duty including fixing a pipe they noticed that was leaking in my basement. I love my new kitchen!
