Upon delivery, you have 3 days to call the company and let them know about any issues. Not seeing any noticeable issues, I told the representative that called each time, to verify I had received the delivery, that we had no issues. When we began to assemble the cabinets, flaws and shoddy workmanship began to be noticed. Unfortunately, we were passed the time frame and had to "make due" with what we had. Cabinets were warped, or 2 cabinets that would be hung next to one another were not of equal sizes, one cabinet had to be taken apart and reassembled because the screws were not in correctly. While nothing was completely abhorrent, there was enough little stuff to make us regret having purchased the products.
Upon delivery of our 2 pantry cupboards, some hardware was missing. I called the company, and am waiting for a response. Without the hardware, the pantry doors (which still haven't been delivered) cannot be installed.
Our biggest issue with Solid Wood was that they touted being made in America. Their products are assembled in America, and manufactured in China...as per the information tagged on the boxes the cabinets were delivered in. This was hugely disappointing to us, as we like to shop local. I blame myself for not following up with their claims, but am disappointed it was made to be something they are not.
My experience with Scott Schaffer and Solid Wood Cabinets started out quite unexpected and is as unique as experiences go. At the time I signed a contract with a
Kitchen Refacing company for $13,400 and told my family how excited I was to freshen up my kitchen and showed them the style I was getting and they told me that it looked plastic, and fake. I was pretty naive as to what MDF Thermofoil was, but it seemed to look pretty. I was told by a family friend that it wasn't real wood, but actually a type of heavy duty printed foil over fiber board. I was beside myself (actually felt like I was tricked into something) and being a single mom and asked my family to help. They introduced me Scott who they said was a pretty good kitchen designer and that he just started working with a new kitchen place. When I was introduced to Scott, he told me how strongly he felt about not liking the refacing process and quality and urged me to contact the company I signed with already an ask if I could cancel my agreement with them and that he could get me NEW kitchen cabinets and granite for less than I was going to pay for just giving my current cabinets a "face lift". At this point I was quite skeptical, and worried because I already felt like I just wanted to forget the whole kitchen remodel all together. Scott looked at my contract with them very carefully and said that I should be able to cancel with them since they didn't have a cancellation policy on their contract. He then told me that even if I didn't work with him that he would still recommend canceling with them because of what I would be getting. I told him that I wasn't very good at dealing with things like cancelling contracts or dealing with any confrontation, and he actually offered to go with me to their place of business and help me with the cancellation process. I took him up on his offer and the next day he met me there. We went in and spoke with the receptionist who told me that I could cancel, but had to pay for a few items which were already in the process of ordering and would incur a restocking fee/admin fees. I agreed and said that was fair and thought that was all done and to call them the next day to confirm the cancellation was actually processed. I thanked Scott for helping and told him that I would contact him once I received the deposit back from the refacing place. The next day I called about my refund and was told that since it was out of the cancellation period that I would not get much of the deposit of $4000 back and I was furious, I called Scott right away, crying (was very emotional) and told him what they said. He had me call the owner of that place and set up a meeting in person, which he said he would personally attend. I did set up the appointment and to make a long story short, Scott helped me settle with them for $350.00. Later that day he went to my home and took measurements of the kitchen and I could tell that he was very experienced and professional. He told me that he would work up a design and quote for me within a few days.
The next day I went to his showroom and he had a design ready for me and a price. I was pleasantly shocked to hear the price of $9,800 and actually like the price so much that I added a few options that brought it up to $10,200. This price included all new cabinets, granite counter top, backsplash and cabinet removal and install. I felt very good about moving forward with Scott and Solid Wood Cabinets, and he even offered me financing options which I took advantage of. I am an elementary school teacher and told Scott I had a very limited schedule and time frame and he assured me that he would be as accommodating as he could. My cabinets were delivered in a few weeks and installation was set up for the following week. Things did get tough with my work schedule, but they did pretty good working around my availability (whole project took a little over 2 weeks and installers were late a few times because they were coming from so far away, but they did great work). Throughout the project Scott checked in a few times to make sure everything was going well and gave me a pretty nice surprise, he told me that because of the minimum 40 sq ft of granite, that I had enough granite allowance to redo my entire kitchen table top! This worked out great because I didn't have room for a kitchen island.
Scott saved my kitchen and I'm not sure what I would have done if he wasn't involved with my project. Solid Wood Cabinet Co saved me money over refacing, which I still cant believe and for a great product with a lifetime warranty. To make my long story shorter, anyone considering a kitchen remodel or new cabinets should call Scott Schaffer and Solid Wood Cabinet Company!
Overall a very positive experience, great product, good prices. I did have one issue with the backsplash grout, but the installers came out to resolve it with no questions asked. I love my kitchen, I don't think I can say it enough.
My cabinets are the Society Hill Style with Peacock Green Granite and Crema Marfil Subway Tile, I did not buy my handles and knobs from Solid Wood but they are a pewter style that works well with the whole design.
"Thanks! It was a pleasure working with you!"
