I built a custom home for my use and when it came time to have the stairs built I interviewed several stair builders. Of all the builders I interviewed I chose Snyder Stairs because I felt they would do the best job. These were not standard stairs they are cut on a 30 degree angle box stringers with a 2-1/2" nosing and there are 4 flights to a common landing. I met Phil Snyder and he immediately impressed me with his knowledge and pleasant personality, he had no reservations that he could build the stairs that I was looking for. The final result was an absolutely beautiful set of stairs, with top notch craftsmanship and a very professional looking finish that matches the hard wood floors very nicely. I would not hesitate to recommend Snyder stairs for any stair project.

Ended in a settlement the day it was to go to trial.
Description of Work: Do Not Under Any Circumstances Use These People. They took our deposit of $3,500 and did no work. Truly no work was performed. We asked repeatedly for shop diagrams and answers to questions and they did nothing. We requested our deposit back and they refused. We had to take them to court to recover our deposit. The case was settled before it was to be tried in April 2010 with Snyder returning a settlement to us. These are despicable people. If you use them - don't say you weren't warned.

Response from Snyder Stairs
It is true we did not provide Member with his stairs. We spent several hours on site for consultation and site measuring with his framer and foreman. We prepared a detailed estimate seperating the stair work and the proposed railings. There are no shop drawings required for such a simple project.. Member architect had improperly designed the staircase and it had had support issues. In our many conversations with them we provided this information and it was prior to receiving any deposit. The architect requested a diagram/drawing of our suggested solution of the support issue, a flitch plate. At this juncture after providing a quote, having several phone conversations and onsite meetings we requested a deposit before we were going to produce any drawings. which we received from Mr. Skolnick's secretary on behalf of Member. We then provided the drawing at no additional charge. Several weeks later we received a request from the architect/super that the architect would like a detailed drawing of the entire stair project, to include elevations, trim profiles newel posts railings and balusters, etc. A drawing like this can be very time consuming and was not included in the quote provided, nor was it necessary We offered to provide this detailed drawing at an additional charge or a simpler, plan view drawing at no cost. Member refused and requested his deposit returned which we absolutely did refuse to do. He had already used our experience at solving his multiple issues and had intended to shop the project at this point. We always made available to Member the option of continuing forward and completing his project. Mr. Skolnick had a history with our longtime customer R. Faucett Construction in constructing a Carriage house which we provided the stairs for under contract from R. Faucett Construction. Member gathered Rob faucett's subcontractor list from doing the carriage house and contacted most of Faucett's subcontractors directly, including us. We proceeded forward with Member only after speaking with Faucet const. and receiving his blessing. The settlement Member speaks was for $1,500. If we did not provide any work I see no reason for Member to settle at less than half of his original deposit.
