SCHAFER BRICK CLEANING AND POINTING

I was very pleased working with Schafer Masonry.  John and his team of 2 workers spent over a week grinding out all the joints between the bricks and then repointing.  He did a great job calling and communicating throughout the project.  And I felt like in general he did more than was required/agreed upon.  The pointing was all "brushed in" (not just raked) which helps it stay in better.
Schaefer is a bit rough around the edges (he is a mason, not a salesman), but a really positive guy and very easy to work with.  I got him pretty early in the season and it was a big job (it took almost 2 weeks), so I needed to pay as the job went along so he could pay his workers.  I was a bit uneasy about it, but it was not an issue and he thoroughly completed the job.  He brought a contract and his license and proof of insurance before the job began.
All in all, I was really pleased with the work and enjoyed talking with Schafer.  I would definitely use him again.

His work is poor and shoddy. He came to me saying that he needed the money to pay his help and he was begging me to pay him. I payed him the last 1000 dollars and he never came back to finish the job.

Procedure and service went very well. As it turned out it was a small job and Mr. Schafer was quick to do the work. He was able to do the work the same day that he examined the repairs needed. I appreciated the service and advice. Sometimes it's harder to get a small job done when contractors only want the large jobs.

The brick cleaning worked great. It took a couple days and it was tricky because our house is very close to the neighbors. The only problem was I should have covered my lilacs and I wish they had told me. The Lilacs were burned by whatever chemical they used in the wash. I also wish the pointing color they had used to patch the concrete ledge was more closely colored to the color of concrete. Otherwise the work went great. I am happy with the results and people comment that the house looks totally different. . Schafer does have a habit of trying to get you to tack on more work as things go along which can be annoying.

Jim and his men were great at the job. They explained everything they were doing from start to finish. The finished product is wonderful and we couldn't ask for more!

Overall it went pretty well. My only complaint would be that I had to pay in increments on a daily basis as opposed to a lump sum after the jobs completion.

John was onsite every day and the job was done in less that one week. Great job for a great price.
