My grandfather clock is ~ 25 years old and has only been serviced twice (my bad.) The chimes had stopped working a few months ago and I planned to call for service. Then the movement stopped and I checked Angie's List for a local repairman. I called and Trevor Tucker (owner) offered to come out that day (very surprising - thought I'd have to wait weeks!) but I was busy. We scheduled an appointment for several days later.

Trevor showed up on time, asked a few questions about the clock and got to work disassembling it. We chatted as he worked and he explained that most manufacturers recommend lubricating every 2 years - he thinks it could go 3-4. He explained how he could tell from the serial number when the clock was made and other details (including that Howard Miller clocks made for a period of time in the early '90s had some problems with the chimes.) Luckily, my clock wasn't in that group.

He said that the movements eventually wear and showed some pieces that had some play in them. They are still working, but recommended if they do stop to just replace the entire movement would be easier and cost would be about the same. Regular cleaning and lubrication keeps the clock working and you could expect to get 30 years out of a clock like mine.

He disassembled the clock taking out the pendulum, chime weights, clock face, and clock movement. He inspected each piece, cleaned and oiled. After reassembling he stayed for a little while to make sure that the clock was operating and the chimes were striking as they should. He said he would send me a reminder card for service when due.

Overall, I think Trevor did a great job, he explained everything he did, didn't make recommendations for additional costly repairs that weren't warranted, was available for service quickly, and the cost was very reasonable - a little less than I expected to pay.

Highly recommend his service.

He responded to my voicemail after a couple of days, set an appointment and showed up promptly. He disassembled the clock, a recent purchase, and cleaned and lubricated the movement. Two of the three chimes were no longer working. He got them all working without replacing any parts or upcharging the quoted repair price. He explained in some detail the working of the clock and showed some play in the movement that demonstrated wear. He advised that the clock should not require regular service for another three years, but that the movement would wear out at some point. Fortunately the same movement is still being manufactured and it can easily be replaced. He suggested that, if the clock begins to fail, I should be prepared to call and ask for the movement to be replaced. By doing so I will be saved the cost of a home visit to diagnose the problem, and a second service call to replace the movement. I appreciated this advice as it's likely to save me money in the future. Definitely recommend this business. Fair, transparent pricing, and no nonsense.

Mr. Tucker returned my phone call promptly, a day after I left him a voicemail, and he was able to do the work that afternoon. He arrived precisely when he said he would: like clockwork. He was considerate, called me "Mrs____" and performed a service that is growing harder to find. I totally recommend him.

Our 30-year old clock had a broken piece and needed service. I checked with my brother-in-law and Angie's List and called Mr. Tucker.
He was prompt and efficient. Would definitely use his services again.

All went very well. Service was quite involved-oiling, adjusting, realigning, etc. Fellow was prompt, polite, and did an excellent job. I have used him in the past-will only use him in the future.

Mr. Tucker was very knowledgable about grandfather clocks and took the time to explain various aspects to me so that I would be able to maintain it, adjust the speed of the clock, if necessary, turn the chimes off, if desired, etc. He was professional in all respects and phoned to advise that he was running late when it was clear he would not be on time. I would have no reservation in recommending him to friends.

First I called on 9/6/11 to schedule an appointment and was able to get one the next day. I had called repair shops closer to my home and would never get a call back or they said they would come on such and such a day and then never show up. Trevor Tucker set up an appt for the next day and said that he would be there between 1 and 3 pm. He did call in the afternoon to say that he would be there around 3pm but kept getting diverted due to road closures from the rain. He did arrive around 3:10pm. He took the front door off the clock, laid it gently on the floor then removed the pendulums and put them on the floor. He examined the clock, oiled what needed to be oiled and did get the clock running again, showed me what to do if the clock starts to lose time. He told that if the clock stops running again it may need a part that costs about $600 but a new clock would run me over two grand. Trevor was there about an hour and was very polite and courteous.

Went very well, though he was a little late. He did call to let me know he was delayed.....I was a little impatient because I had to return to work. He worked quickly, cleanig the clock, then leveling and reseting everything, including the chimes. The clock works well now. I was a little suprisd at how much the service cost, but have little to compare it with. Overall a good experience, and I will call him again if the clock needs service.
