I asked Luxe Walls for an estimate on painting my dining room with a urethane paint. They told me that they had applied this type of paint and assured me they could do it. The owner's were extremely nice. They explained to me what needed to be done to get my walls looking the way I wanted them to. Since I had done a lot of research on the process I knew that what they were telling me was accurate. They assured me they could do the job and gave me an estimate that said they would remove all nail pops, skim coat the walls, and then put two coats of primer and two coats of paint on the walls. This was well over $3000 for an 11X12 room with 3 huge opens (doorways) and an 8 foot ceiling. The owner's were punctual and very nice during the application. They told me about their children and extended family.
The first day the owner showed up he had a putty for patching. He explained to me that he had never used this putty but it would be the best way to accomplish the look I wanted. I questioned it since the contract said they would skim coat the walls to a level 4 which is basically like a museum quality wall. He never skim coated after putting the putty on. He applied the primer and then the first coat of paint. It was then that I noticed the dimpling in the walls. I asked him about it and he said it was due to the imperfection in the walls, however, later I found out it was due to the unevenness of the putty and too many coats of paint. He applied 4 coats of paint instead of the 2 he had put on the contract.
I paid them even though I felt very unsatisfied with his work. A couple days later I noticed not only that there was dimpling in the walls, but you could still see all the nail pops.
A couple days later I addressed the issues I had with their work (which I had already done through the process) to them. After many emails and them giving me the run around about how they were going to take care of it, I told them I was going to contact an attorney. This was after one month of emails. The owner told me he felt like he would be entering a hostile environment and considered this case closed even though they had not done what the contract said they would do. I felt like I had been very patient for a month.
I contacted an attorney and he told me to take them to small claims court. I did not, even though I had many pictures, an eye witness (professional drywaller) willing to testify, and the contract that was NOT honored. I was afraid to go to small claims court since I had never done it before and chances were I would still have to fight for the money even if I won the case.
My hope is just that someone will see this post and not use them. Please remember that they seem like the nicest people.
