John was hired to remodel our kitchen. Signed contract and gave him 50% of project cost as down payment. Workers showed up sporadically throughout project. We questioned if they were working on other projects and they confirmed John schedules multiple jobs at same time which is opposite of what John told us at contract signing. Most of the work was finally completed and payments made to John. It's been a year and he still has yet to come back to finish job. Reached out to him for dates to come back. He schedules appointment and workers don't show. No call from John they aren't coming. Last no-show appointment I find out he was in Europe for a trip and wouldn't be coming home for two weeks. Still have not heard from him about completing work he's been paid for. Be forewarned if you hire him.

It was perfect. They explained what they were going to do. They did what they said.

Both projects went without issues. Johns people were very professional. They showed up on time, every time, did the work, and cleaned up every day after the day was done. Could not ask for better people to do a job. If you go with anybody else, you would be making a mistake! They have impeccable job ethics. We would absolutely have them back to do other jobs.

John Keevill oversold his capacities and commitment. Our project was juggled into an overbooked schedule and a six-week job ran four months. The professional work we hired was performed erratically and, in some instances, poorly. I represented the owner (my son and daughter-in-law) and funded the project. I quickly authorized additional funding for scope increases (electrical service upgrades, enclosure for a new hall closet, drywall and painting for the living room, a new wood attic stair). John has been paid in full. My specific complaints are:  A short workday from 9:00 to 3:30 and lack of urgency – family had no bathroom;  Lack of supervision (a key crew leader had a cardiac episode, no backup);  Erratic scheduling, as other projects and customers and as John's summer vacation took precedence, his promised work crew did not appear – many other days were also “no-show”;  Keevill personally installed floor tiles (excellent), but the tub surround and shower stall's expensive decorative tiles were performed by his unsupervised crew and the result is uneven apprentice work - unsatisfactory;  The shower threshold was left hollow (unsupported tile) and the glass door installer had to stop work until repairs were completed;  Keevill installed a standard single panel closet door instead of the specified double door, and ignored my demands to correct it, going so far as to install standard hardware instead of the hardware we provided. I had to insist he return to correct the work;  The living room was poorly painted, even allowing for existing rough edges;  Punch list items included a big hole in the drywall (closet interior) and painting over unsanded or primed spackle - obviously Keevill’s eyes were closed;  Surplus boxes of expensive tiles were not turned over to the homeowner and repeated requests (now demands) were dismissed. He has finally provided one box of tiles (one of three styles) after weeks of denying he had them. New fixtures and finishes were marginally protected from tools, resulting in minor scratches on shower seat. Prior to our hiring Keevill, his customer reference warned us to insist on timely completion. We now understand that John over-schedules and is careless about details in the closeout. Although, John solved several problems in the course of the job, most were of his own making. The completed project is “acceptable”: functional and attractive, but flawed. It is poor value for the price. John's initial assurances of quality and professionalism were not carried through to the end of the project.

I chose Keevill Construction because it was the only firm that was willing to have someone enter the attic/crawlspace to ensure that the new soffit vents were not obstructed by the insulation.  Keevill's estimate for the work was about the same as the estimates I received from other contractors.
Mr. Keevill readily answered all my questions.  Among other things, he explained that reflective shingles would not be worth the added cost, given how the roof would be ventilated and how I had insulated my attic with both fiberglass and reflective insulation.
The job site was cleaned up at the end of every day when work was done.
Mr. Keevill submitted his estimate in estimate in mid-Oct., 2011, I signed the contract at the beginning of Nov., and the work was done by mid-Dec.  This seemed reasonable to me, given the situation at the time.  Some of the delay was due to weather, as one might expect at that time of year, but most of it was due to the 2011 Halloween nor'easter.  Under the circumstances, the township's permit-granting authority and the Keevill scheduler gave a higher priority to emergency repair jobs than to the work on my roof.

John Keevill has done work for me at my home over several years including repairs due to storm damage and outside deck replacement. John has always done quality work and is very responsive. Once he's on a job he stays on the job until its completed. The most recent job was a complete remodel of my master bathroom. The bathroom was essentially gutted, plumbing was added and replaced and it was built up from the bare walls. I had intricate tile work throughout which was done beautifully. I had done a lot of research on design but had difficulty finding some of the accent tile. John not only made recommendations where I could find it, he came with me to pick it out. John and his crew are a pleasure to do business with. He came in on budget even though we encountered some surprises along the way. Messy job that it was, John took care to clean up each day he and the crew finished work. This was the biggest and most complex job I contracted with John to do. I am absolutely delighted with the results. The kitchen is next and John Keevill will get the job.

He did not show up when promised
He did not lay the tile evenly - the grout was uneven, was never sealed, and does not all lay flat at the same level
He cracked tile when installing a threshold
Tile did not meet the base of the stairs so he installed a baseboard with quarter round - it looks poor
His drywall work was poor - not sanded well and is not even
He did not hang the cabinets evenly - I had to hire someone to rehang some of them
The light switch covers did not fit because he neglected to set the electrical box extender so you could screw them on
He extended two walls and did not remove the corner bead so the plaster all cracked along the wall where the corner bead is
He continued to be late or not show at all and was fired

The project took much longer than estimated and cost more as well. Mostly due to more water damage being found during the demolition phase. The floor and counter tops look great and we can walk on the floor without it sagging. What I did not like was that Mr. Keevill's measurements were never communicated properly to me or the flooring company and I ended up purchasing lower quality flooring because I thought I could not afford better flooring. I was told that the granite company would provide me with cutting board cut from the slab used on my counters, but I never received the cutting board. The granite company never returned my calls about the cutting board. The area where the subfloor had rotted out and was replaced is a few millimeters (the thickness of the removed linoleum) lower than the rest of the floor. It is noticible when I walk on it. Once, Mr. Keevill was explaining to me the work being done and he was absent mindedly playing with the leveling feet on the disassembled dishwasher. When he reinstalled the dishwasher, it was not level and the door would not close correctly. When I went to level it myself, I also noticed that it was missing a few parts. I had to request that the parts and screws be returned. After everything was completed, I found a leak in in the water pipes under the sink. Keevill came out immediately and replaced the pipe. He does stand by his work! His comment about the pipe was that it was cut and spliced so many times that all the work and bumping of it caused the junctions to weaken. This is one of only two sections of pipe that he worked on. He should not have added more junctions if it was a best practice to replace the whole 3 foot section of PVC pipe. Most of my issues with the quality of the work are minor. There was so much rot caused by years of water damage that the cost and time estimates were too low. I think that this caused everyone much frustration. By the end of the project both parties just wanted it to be finished and it might have cause some corners to be cut.

The project was difficult due to the poor condition of the previous work. As work progressed, the depth of the problem kept getting worse. I was kept appraised of problems and options to correction keeping costs at a reasonable level. I feel the work done was top-rate and honest.

He has always been on time. They are all polite and well spoken. They are personable. They are very diligent in getting the job done. I would absolutely use him again in the future.
