Men seemed to do a decent job.  However, when getting estimate, Steve Hinkle told us step flashing is the  proper way to flash chimneys.  Instead of step flashing like we had, they installed a wrap around flashing around fireplace chimney and did not change the flashing around the other two areas of oil heat chimney.  Ended up with 3 different color flashings.  The flashing that they did install was black while the new roof and brick of chimney are brown.  He offered to paint it, but we declined because of possibility of peeling in the future.  The flashing is available in brown. Vent pipes were also supposed to match roof color.  These things were not written in the contract, but Mr.Hinkle told us this is the way he installs roofs.  We paid for new plywood decking under the new roof on shed, but they installed it with a gap at the peak as if we were getting a ridge vent.  We did not get a ridge vent because we have a cupola.
The reason we are posting this review is because  we discovered that rain water was flowing behind the gutter on one section of the roof instead of into the gutter.  We contacted Mr. Hinkle, and he promised to come out to fix the problem the following week. He never came and would no longer accept calls from us.  We have been nothing but polite in our dealings with Mr. Hinkle,  and the only thing we questioned was the black flashing, and we never complained about anything else.  I ended up fixing the gutter problem myself even though at age 66 I don't like going up on ladders.  Mr. Hinkle gave us a five year workmanship guarantee which proved to be useless.
We chose Hinkle Construction and paid a lot more than our other estimate because Stephen Hinkle is a GAF factory certified "Master Elite" installer.  We contacted GAF about our problem, and they could not get in touch with him either.  We did check Angie's list before hand and, there was one complaint which Steve gave us an explanation for.  We believed him.

Stephen Hinkle promised in writing to honor an estimate from a business
mentor who had quoted me at $5700.00 for a new roof and total gutter
replacement. In a very convincing manner he promised to have all
work completed by a very reasonable date. By all indications there was
no reason not to trust him. He brought his work crew and the roof was
completed in one day. He promised the gutters would be installed in 3
days time and that the work site would be immaculate. The gutters were
not installed for over a month. In that time we had the week of rain
that accompanied the huge hurricane we had in late October 2012. The
inches of rain poured into my foundation and I was beyond stressed the
entire time. I have seen evidence of damage since then. In addition I
continue to find nails and other debris that have washed off of the
roof. A friend of the family stepped on one of the nails- I was
mortified.
Throughout this experience Stephen returned a
call or text once or twice at first and then I never heard from him again, despite repeated phone calls, texts, even certified letters. Upon meeting him he acted like he would be your new BFF
and on top of that because of the relationship he had with his
mentor/supplier he was just full of "I would never screw you over"
promises. In addition to all of the above, he added on to the estimate
he had promised to honor.  While the experience started out favorably, it ended with nothing but stress and poor business practice.
Stephen Hinkle's mentor/supplier has ceased to do business with him. Nothing but excuses, false promises and total lack of communication.

The job was good. We did have some problems with the billing. He will not return calls.
