Initially met with Jose, their estimator and foreman. Jose was personable and professional. He made several suggestions and did the job as I requested. Work was scheduled within a month and the crew showed up on the day scheduled. Jose was present the entire time and ensured the work was done as agreed upon. He operated the equipment.
When the crew arrived on time on the agreed date, we were hoping for a good experience. The first thing we were presented with by Jose was a notice that they would need more money for the job because they had to provide a base for the addition. Remember, he did the estimate that included a 4' X 46and quot; addition! It was now $400 more for the 'base' for the addition! Since the crew was on site and had started, we continued with the project at a now higher rate. Jose said they would cut out the cracks and put a base layer in first to settle before resurfacing the whole driveway. This was done on two of the cracked areas but a filler was put into the third area instead of cutting it out as per the estimate. Shortly after the work began, Jose left. He did return later.
When the project was completed, Jose said they couldn't leave without a check for the entire job. This was another red flag and a mistake to pay for the whole thing! By 5:30pm the day of the job, the driveway had already sunken in two of the cracked areas! These areas are quite visible, produce a bump when driving over them, and hold water during rain storms! After contacting them several times, Jose showed up unannounced on a Saturday morning. We showed him the problem areas and he said the office would call on Monday morning to schedule a time to repair it. This repair would involve heating the sunken areas and refilling them. When we asked if that was going to look like a 'patch' job on a new driveway, he admitted that it would 'for a while!' So after spending over $5000 for a new driveway, we were going to have one with patched areas! We surely could have just patched the cracked areas for much less money and had the same aesthetic appearance! Perhaps a better solution would have been to patch the areas and reseal the whole driveway for a more uniform appearance.Well, they never called back on Monday morning as promised. We made several more calls and finally they set up a time to come on October 15th. Guess who never showed up or called! It is now October 30th and we have not heard anything from them. We are very disappointed in this company. We found this company here on Angie's list but we would never recommend them and would never use them again! Perhaps this company should let others give them accolades instead of declaring themselves to be the 'most highly rated in Cumberland county!'
I'm sure he knew the change in plans prior to our scheduled appt time. I would have appreciated a call prior to 8:30am. I understand that plans change and I would have been happy to reschedule had I been given appropriate notice.
If the estimate process is any indication of how the job would actually go, it was not worth the risk when there are other companies with good reports in the area.
