We were extremely satisfied with Stephen's work from the beginning of the project until its completion. When we first met, we were interested in getting several layout ideas for the new kitchen. We wanted to expand on the previous space by taking out a wall between the kitchen and dining room and installing a sliding glass door to replace a triple dining room window. This would become the new back door and open up the space to an existing sun room. Stephen provided us the name of a designer that drew several layout ideas for the new space so we were able to make an informed decision before the work started.
Stephen handled the schedule and delivery of a dumpster and had the entire kitchen gutted and removed in a single day. Demolition for the sliding door proved to be a bigger challenge than first thought because of the layers of old wall, plaster, cinderblock, stucco and siding. Stephen and his crew overcame the challenge and we now have a beautiful slider in its place. His attention to detail during all phases of the project is an asset to the end result when all is said and done. Stephen offers suggestions regarding flooring and tile choices, colors and layout ideas all during the course of the project. It was his suggestion that we consider the double-stacked crown moulding for the new cabinets and although it added to the budget for that item, the end result was truly worth it.
Stephen diligently supervised the sub-contractors when they were on site, ensuring that what they were doing was correct and would not negatively impact completion of the project. He recommended vendors for cabinetry, lighting and plumbing that we ultimately wound up using. We felt that during all phases of the project Stephen's judgement could be trusted with items large and small, even down to the color of the stain on the quarter-round moulding. He never gave us bad advice.
Due to the scale of the project changes to the original plan and estimate are to be expected. Stephen was very reasonable with his costs for the two change orders that resulted.
A year later we are so pleased with the result that we have contacted Stephen to spec out and estimate a bathroom remodel.
We would highly recommend Stephen if you are considering a remodel project.

I am extremely satisfied with the work that was done. It took longer than expected, but Stephen is a perfectionist who took his time to complete the job properly. He was extremely considerate of my needs and was conscious to be mindful of my neighbors. He is very easy to work with and has a very pleasant personality. He is creative in coming up with solutions to address problems that come up during the project and he persists in completing a task until it is done. I would recommend Stephen to anyone!

Modulus performed the remodel of the kitchen in my 1960 small rancher. I could not afford anything elaborate, so I wanted to use Ikea cabinets to keep costs down (plus I liked the style). Stephen did not have any experience with assembly of Ikea cabinets, but was willing to do it and gave me a competitive price. We were staying within the original footprint of the kitchen, but Stephen recommended some modern touches like a wall of cabinets that mimics the look of custom built-ins. He and his crew were here every day for almost five weeks. At the end of each day, the kitchen was cleaned-up and all tools were put away. They took great care to ensure dust and debris did not get into the rest of the house. Stephen was obsessive about every detail being perfect (and so am I, so we were a good match), even if it took extra time to get it just right. For example, the "reducing strip" (transition from the kitchen tile to the dining room hardwood) he had selected did not match the wood to his satisfaction, so he went and bought a new one that matches perfectly. He does not cut corners, even if it's something the customer wouldn't notice. We did have a few last-minute construction fiascos (e.g., missing parts, fridge too large for space, too much tile ordered) and lots of questions, which I guess is normal for a renovation, but it was stressful as I felt I had to be here all the time to address all the things that came up unexpectedly. One of the last items to be installed was the under-cabinet lighting. Unlike mostly everything else in the kitchen, I had not picked out the lighting myself; I just went with what he recommended. Alas, when it was installed, I didn't like the "beige-y" light that it cast on the beautiful new mosaic glass backsplash. Rather than see me unhappy, Stephen volunteered to remove the lighting and we worked to find something that worked better for me, even though it involved working very late at night to get the job done. It worked out to be less expensive as well, so the money was deducted from my final bill. I'm not sure many contractors would have done that, but Stephen's priority was customer satisfaction. I have had my new kitchen for five months and have had no problems whatsoever. I have never been involved in a major renovation, so I am happy that I had such a competent, professional, meticulous, trustworthy, fair, and artistic contractor. On a personal note, he was very nice to my little dogs, and is quite funny, so we had a lot of fun on the project.

Great experience.... Stephen walked us through the entire process of the kitchen/dining room remodel and worked with us on price to allow us to get everything we wanted at a very reasonable cost. Through the process we had many questions, in which Stephen helped us with whenever we called including after hours. During the remodel my wife was pregnant and Stephen brought in a cleaning lady at his expense to assure the house was clean of debris from the kitchen. The outcome is amazing. We could not be happier.
