I have used Keystone Garden services since 2008. They planted new trees, bushes, and potted flowering plants, and they also provide lawn treatment and ongoing garden maintenance services. I had thoroughly evaluated alternatives to Keystone Gardens before I selected them, and I found that they were by far the best landscaping contractor in SE Pennsylvania. They completed excellent installations during 2008 through 2020 that have stood the test of time, and they perform regular service for lawn and garden treatments. If there is a problem with a tree or plant -- even years after planting -- they will replace it for free. The outcome is great and Keystone Gardens is always very responsive to fix any issues. They have occasionally resolved fairly complex issues that arise and completed the diagnosis quickly and accurately -- and fixed the issue right away. Their prices are fair and the technicians and gardeners and office staff are a pleasure to work with. I would highly recommend Keystone Gardens for your gardening and lawn needs.

"Hi [Member Name Removed], We appreciate you taking time to review us, even if not every aspect of a review is glowing. It gives us an opportunity to improve, so thank you! I am sorry you feel that you paid too much for work done. Can I ask if our process was followed? : *Determining Landscaping & Gardening Needs: The first visit is one of discovery, finding out what your vision is for your landscape, yard or garden. We will determine the scope of the work and whether we are the right company for your landscaping or garden project. *Developing a Landscaping or Gardening Proposal: Based on our first visit detailing the landscaping or gardening work to be done, we will develop a formal landscaping proposal for you which details the length of the project as well as the costs. *Landscape or Gardening Proposal Meeting: The second visit is to go through your proposal and make any adjustments to the project. We make sure you know what you can expect from the moment we start implementing your landscape design to the end of the project where your landscape, yard or garden is transformed. No surprises! *Proposal Accepted: When you sign our landscape or garden work contract we begin scheduling and planning our resources including landscapers and masons as well as ordering stone, soil and plants as outlined by your landscaping or garden proposal. *Setting a Start Date: We agree on a start date. One week before we begin, you can expect a call from us letting you know when to expect us and another reminder call the day before. *Landscape or Garden Project Updates: During the project, our team will keep you apprised of the progress of the project until completion. *Your Landscape Project is Complete: Upon completion, we will interview you regarding your landscaping or garden project to make sure you are completely satisfied. If your designer did not follow this process or make costs and scope clear, please tell me so I can address this breach of policy/training issue? And did you express dissatisfaction during the final walkthrough? If there anything we can do to get the quality from a B to an A? we will gladly come back and address anything you aren't satisfied with. Please let us know what we can do to make you happier? Sincerely, Mike Garrison CEO"

David came on time, measured the space, listened to what I wanted, and promised a written estimate within the seven days' standard set by Keystone Gardens.  Inever heard from them again.
Failure to follow through with something as easy as an estimate is a bad indicator of workmanship and reliability.
I'm just glad I didn't start the job with them, as they might have left it partly finished.

Also, I have a lawn contract. My contract was for a push mower, they use a power mower. They are suppose to blow the driveway into the wooded area. I suspect it is being blown in my ground cover. I used them last year and the services were fine. The quality of work has declined and wasn't done in a timely manner.

They are very clean workers and have a professional look to them. There's nothing bad I can say about them. They spend time listening to the customer and what the customer wants. They individualize their services to the particular customer which I really appreciate. They are amazing and even still use a push mower! They really do what the customer wants and are just an overall wonderful company. They have an old fashioned way of working which I love.

I recently used Keystone Gardens for Landscaping around my
property. This is the second time that I
have used this company for landscaping work, the first time was back in
2012. They give excellent suggestions on
landscaping design and what would look best for a particular situation, I was
satisfied with their work then and I am satisfied now. They are expensive BUT, they show up on time,
they have an excellent staff of hard workers, and when they complete the job it
looks like it should. The bottom line
is---you get what you pay for.

I could write a major opus here, but let's start with the bottom line: they came when they promised to come and did what they promised to do. It took the better part of three days (with one thunderstorm interruption) for three people. The job foreman was Megan who has an excellent background in the kind of native plants and quite a few exotics we have around the house. She knew what to prune and how and when to prune it. At least twice a day during the effort, she invited us to walk around the house with her to see what was done, what was doing, and what ought to be done.
Their professionalism (and this goes for David, the and quot;Sales Designerand quot; as well as Megan) is top notch. I paid a lot more than I was anticipating but my wife and I feel it was worth it. Lord, they even got most of the ground ivy!
If there was any negative, it's that they couldn't get all of the roots of the vinca I unfortunately put where it ought not to have been. I'll handle that over time as my arthritic back, limbs and fingers permit.

Feedback, positive and negative, help us better serve you and continue to grow our business and improve our company. For that, we are grateful. Your garden was more challenging than most gardens since you favor the more naturalistic garden style. On top of the more whimsical look that you desire, you also had many overgrown weeds that were interwoven within other perennials and shrubs. I had no fear however, since I knew Megan and her team here at Keystone Gardens could work their magic and delicately correct your garden spaces. They did a wonderful job and made the place look kept without sacrificing the charm of the gardens. [member name removed] and [member name removed] you are very lovely individuals and I do look forward to helping you with the garden for some time! Sincerely, David Burnett Keystone Gardens"

We are very pleased with our experience with Keystone Gardens. We had quite a large project including deck demolition, tree removal/planting new trees and patio construction and are so happy with the results. Our backyard went from barely usable and boring to a fun,family-friendly yard we use on a daily basis. The project was completed swiftly and thoroughly – the team showed up even in snow and rain and worked extremely hard. From the talented sales/design to the careful execution of our patio and accompanying landscaping, we were impressed with the daily communication and industrious problem-solving we received. Any of the minor hiccups involved in a large project like this were effectively and professionally handled ad we are confident in the very high-quality construction we received.

I enjoyed working together and creating the patio space that you wanted. At first we were concerned about the size of the patio, but I think it worked out to be just the right size. Not too large and not too small. It has a nice open feel, and doesn’t have too many walls which can sometimes feel confining. I am also excited to see how the privacy screening grows in over time. Your project was very special to me since I got to see Abby and Deuce almost every day! I look forward to checking on things and working together in the future! There are many positive aspects to our experience with Keystone Gardens, but some frustrating ones as well. On the sales side, Keystone is super responsive--quick to make an appointment, quick to show up, quick to give an estimate. They assure you that they are unlike other landscape companies and aim to be the one company you turn to for all landscape needs--big and small. While we were happy to hear all of this, we were disappointed that once we made our deposit, the communication becomes less, well, enthusiastic. I suppose this is somewhat normal, but it seemed to be such a drastic difference in responsiveness. During our walk through with our sales rep, we were told (more than once) that once we make a deposit the work is scheduled to begin "within two weeks". This was good news to us, because it was already late in the season. We sent in our deposit and waited...and waited. Finally I emailed the rep and asked when our work was scheduled, and he gave me a date one month from the time we said yes to the contract. I emailed back asking for an explanation (I was worried it would be late for my vegetable garden) but received no reply. If he even mentioned that I didn't have his cell phone number, but no reply. I would have been less upset with the late start date if I received even a one line email explaining that they were busy, etc. When Keystone finally showed up,they worked as they said they would. The crew was courteous and friendly and they worked hard--no complaints there, although they did pull up some new plants I had planted while they were weeding (even though I asked them to be careful). I feel I made an error in not forcing the sales rep to specify what type of timbers he was using on the vegetable garden. My husband asked for cedar, and the rep told us that they would use "the wood they always use for vegetable gardens". Once the timbers were anchored in the ground, we questioned the quality of the wood. We then realized that they looked like standard pressure treated wood--not what one would assume to use by default in a vegetable garden. Again, I contacted our sales rep and never got a reply. If he had contacted me, or answered me, or reassured me, I would be willing to use them again. It seems like there is a gap somewhere in the common courtesy department, but it may just be the one sales guy we worked with (who seemed perfectly nice, so it was strange that he ignored us after the fact). So, I think our overall rating is that they are "good", not "great". If you use them, make sure you pin them down to times/schedule and that you watch (like a hawk) when they install any garden beds.

"The following letter and accompanying gift certificate were mailed to Jennifer on 9/13/12: Dear Member, In our continuing efforts to improve our customers’ experience and meet their expectations, we have recently implemented regular monitoring of Angie’s List for customer feedback. Although we do not participate in the advertising program and, therefore, do not have a strong presence on their website, we have learned that several of our customers use this service to research contractors and submit feedback about their experiences. Allow me to extend our apologies for the break-down in communications you received from your Sales Designer. Know that your comments and feedback have been shared and addressed with our entire sales team. Please accept the enclosed gift certificate and feel free to use it toward future Keystone Garden servicds or, if you’d like, you may pass it along to a friend for them to use. Our clients are our greatest asset, something we don’t take for granted. Remember – your satisfaction is our goal. Feedback, positive and negative, help us better serve you. We look forward to the opportunity to help you in the future with the understanding that your highest priority is clear and consistent communication, from beginning to end. Sincerely, Mike Garrison Owner"

We worked with Keystone Gardens when we first moved to the area 12 years ago. We had them develop a landscape plan for the front yard and prepare the beds. It was a very poor experience. The plan was pedestrian, but worse their sloppy work resulted in a flooded basement. They forgot to reinstall the drain pipes (which we hadn't noticed) and we ended up with a flooded basement after a major storm. We received an apology, but no act of good faith despite the the hours of work we had to devote to cleaning up the mess. Still after 12 years and seeing their signs throughout the neighborhood we chose to give them another try.

Last summer after installing a new patio, we wanted some landscaping around the patio. Jim (I believe this was his name) was sent to provide an estimate. He promised us a plan within a week and after more than a month he left a message saying he had a design and would like to meet. We didn't respond immediately feeling that he had blown us off. In February we called back, hoping to get something installed this spring. We were told that Jim returned to the UK and they sent another sales person. He arrived with a bid and materials list, but no plan. We told him we could not commit to an $8,000 bid without a plan. He indicated he would get in contact with Jim and send us the plan. It has not yet arrived. Since then we have called twice to speak to the office and we have yet to receive a call back from the sales person or any explanation for failure to respond or send the plan.

Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. I guess we were fools for thinking that things had changed.

James (the British gentleman referred to in another review) came to our house to provide an estimate for work on our yard, garden design and recommendations on hardscaping. Initially, he did not seem engaged, but by the end of our appointment, he was drawing sketches and walking around the property taking careful notes. When he left, he told us that we would have his estimate within a week. After 2 months of hearing nothing (we had been on vacation and had a death in the family in the meantime), we called Keystone to try to get some information. The woman who answered the phone was very apologetic and said she would have James contact us immediately. Still, we received no response. A week later, I called again and received another apology from the woman on the phone. James called the next day, explained that he had been waiting on information to add to our estimate, and it fell off his radar while he was waiting. He promised we would have costs within 24 hours and he would call within 48 hours to follow up. Four days later, we had again received NO follow up from James. I called Keystone to tell them the story, and they were very surprised because James had been on vacation for several days. It seems as though he no intention of ever giving us any information. I told Keystone that I did not want to work with James but I would like to speak with another landscape designer since I had invested quite a bit of time by this point. That was three weeks ago, and I still have not received a call. This situation was so disappointing and the absolute lack of follow up or concern for the customer was egregious.

They arrived on time, told me what they were going to do each day, it took three days to complete the job. They supervisor was very professional. She checked in with me several times while the project was being installed and walked around with me after it was completed. The gave me instructions for watering the new plants, etc. They checked in with me about a month later to see how everything was doing. They sent some one over in early September to look at the plantings to make certain they were doing well. they guarantee their plantings for one year.

Overall, my experience with them was good. They were very responsive. Everything was professionally handled, but then the price was high, which was the major reason why I decided not to use them. The estimate was free. I will consider using them again in the future; once I am comfortable with the price range, I will be able to approach the issue better.

AWESOME....on time, prompt response, fast and efficient.

I read the angry guy response from someone else on here and wonder if no one got back to him, why he didn't say something before blasting them here?

I did reconfirm with my designer about when I would get my estimate and how I like to receieve it ( in my case email is best...I hate the phone!).

I am just that way as I believe communication to be a 2 way street. I would take naysayers with a boulder of salt.
