Countertops and Backsplashes
Home Depot sells a recycled glass countertop product that we liked a lot, so we took a chance on them. The ordering process seemed to go well, but we were surprised that we had to pay for the complete cost of the counter at the time of ordering. With other companies, a payment of half is usually what is asked for until the job is completed. But we went with it anyway....bad move. We measured the counters ourselves but then decided to hire a carpenter to do it again just to make sure, so the measurements we gave Home Depot were correct.
The next step is that their countertop fabricator and installer, Precision Countertops, gets in touch and comes over to make a template. During that process the template maker casually mentioned that our current counters only had a 3/4" overhang and that they typically do 1-1/2" overhang -- did I have any problem with that? Without realizing that I was agreeing to a surcharge of $800, I said yes. The surcharge amounted to 1/3 of the cost of the counters! Once the template is made, Home Depot lets you know that there is no going back. So we either had to lose the $2400. we already had paid them or pay the extra $800.
I just think this is the most unethical practice I have ever experienced. We weren't informed at all that this was a possibility unless we had somehow gotten the measurements wrong, which we had not. We now have the new counters but it's really hard to enjoy them when we feel that we were subject to unethical practices that amount to a scam. Please beware of the pricing practices at Home Depot and go somewhere else.

I have been with them over the phone for many times, trying to get the delivery dates. I have been unsuccessful, and it had been over a month now. They gave me a delivery date for the vinyl for Tuesday, and I confirmed it. The guy called me at 8'o clock in the morning, and he asked me to have somebody during 8-11 windows, which sound good. The person was there, and the person called me up at 11 saying nobody had showed up. I had to pay the person to sit there, and nobody called me on my cell phone. They called me on my home phone. I was not at my home because I was working. I called Home Depot to find out what the deal was, since the installation for the vinyl was missed. When anyone put the vinyl down, they automatically have to put the glue down. They forgot to order the glue. With the three weeks order and me talking to them practically every day finding when it is going to happen, nobody looked that they needed glue. It was an excuse that they couldn't put the vinyl down because of the glue. I asked when they were going to order the glue, and they said they had to order a special. Then I had to tell that person to go home because that was not going to happen. Then I asked when are they going to get the glue, have they placed the order, and did they use our UPS to track it. They said no and they have their own process. Therefore, I asked to tell when they will deliver the glue, and when will they schedule it. There was no real satisfaction. I still don't have any confirmation of installations on the carpets. When we go to Home Depot, we see big carpets on the roll. There was no really big deal on the carpet. I asked them to take it from there, and the owner said they have to order it from special too. I asked if they have any tracking mechanism to know when it will be delivered. He said might be this week or next week. They have already taken my credit card and posted it. Finally, I spoke to the district sales manager, and he apologized because he never saw such a screw up in his life. He said he would give $300 credit towards this. It did not matter to me because I spent more than that on a person to sit there and travel there, and later to find out they haven't done it. I was totally displeased with them. I have done a lot of business over the years with them and they have done work within the week's time. I never had anything extended for 3 weeks and then to have something like glue. Nobody knew anything about it. I had checked everything in there to see if the glue was in there somewhere. I am going to write up to Trooper because I live in Philadelphia and go up to there to talk to the manager to see it to myself, where the order stands. They have my money, and I don't even have the products. They contract everything out now. They said the contractor would call me on the date of installation, which he did this time. He said he would be there this time. Then he never called back to tell that he would not be there, until my person told that nobody showed up. Their communication is really bad. I don't want anybody going through what I went. They were supposed to call me back by Thursday with tracking and assignment number and today is Thursday; I haven't heard anything from them since.

Hardware & Home Improvement Stores, Water Heater Service
Great experience. Ordered over the phone and appt. time scheduled. The crew arrived on time, reviewed work to be done, and confirmed there would be no extra charges (we were advised that there might be addt'l. work needed to bring installation up to code ). Crew efficiently installed new unit removed old one and cleaned up work area. Great experience.

Garage Door Service
Installer arrived on time on the specified day, polite, friendly, and helpful. His work is excellent. I have one complaint, though. When I first ordered the door, I was told it would take approximately three to four weeks coming from the manufacturer. I received a call from Home Depot about the fourth week and was told that the installer needed to add a low-overhead thing-a-ma-jig for the door and Home Depot needed an okay from me to charge extra money. Well, I told the Home Depot rep. on the phone that low-overhead wasn't an issue because there was over a foot of extra ceiling space when measured from the door frame to the ceiling. I asked when I should expect to have my new door. The Home Depot rep. told me it should be about another three to four weeks. It took exactly eight weeks. (Be careful. Don't pay for something you don't need.) Overall, the door is beautiful and the electric opener works great.
