The job went well at first. The contractor showed up on time and work was started on the main roof. Things started to go south when the roofing nails rain down upon my running, 2018 15 SEER whole house AC unit. The contractor placed a small peice of light wood that promptly blew of the fan portion of my AC. The nails were spit and chewed out of the AC fan in about 10 seconds. The next insult came when the porch roof needed done. Next my wife and I wondered why the porch roof was to be shingled as the contract spells out a rolled roof to be applied to this flat roof surface. We were told that "we applied a 'double seal' and it should not be a problem. Since half of our roof was uncovered (and rain was to occur later in the day) combine with the assurance the 'double seal' would work, we decided to let them continue with shingles. At that point I asked "Did you install new flashing?" And we were told by the crew supervisor was, "Yes". Nextly the crew supervisor, said he could not replace the plywood on the underside of the porch roof. "You'll need a carpenter to do that", was his statement. Paul Brown spoke to his staff and had them replace two small strips of plywood so that the repair of the back porch was not done as depicted in the contract because there were 5 other large plywood sheets that needed replaced. The next insult was the fact that I spent a week cleaning up roofing nail and roofing material from my yard. I went out of my pocket to buy a magnetic nail sweeper to clean up the mess left behind As of this day my back door/porch area is still leaking, the same way it did when I gave Paul Brown the job. The flashing that Strategic Improvements said they replace, turns out was the old flashing with the shingles underneath with open nail holes were the old flashing was pulled up and not nailed down onto the shingles.. What really caused this review to be written now is the fact that Paul Brown has not sent a crew out to fix my porch. Despite the fact that we have a decade long warranty for materials and an extended warranty to cover workmanship, Paul Brown has refused, by his lack of contact with us, to honor the warranty that he sold to us. This was the reason we chose Strategic Improvements. When we found that Paul Brown's Strategic Improvements would not honor their warranty to us, I called Owens Corning to see if I could use another contractor to fix our roof. What I was told was that we don't have the Extended warranty---we only have the warranty that covers materials. When I ask why we don't have a warranty that covers workmanship I was told that Strategic Improvement would have to send in paperwork for us to have the extended warranty. I'm not sure of whether Bait and Switch tactics were used on this senior couple. I will be contacting the State Attorney Generals Office to see if this is Bait and Switch and if another consumers have had this same experience. Thank you.
Description of Work: Leak at backdoor/porch needed fix, so we decided to use Strategic Improvements, a roofing company owned by Paul Brown. Paul Brown was given the contract because my wife and I felt bad for someone that literally begged us for the job. Also included were 2 sheds roofs, a back porch repair and a rolled roof, a the main house roof---sum >$15,000.
