I drive a 2006 Nissan Frontier LE with a factory installed Rockford Fosgate (RF) radio and 6-disc CD changer system. After 7 years of use, the CD-changer simply stopped working. Disconnecting the battery for several hours on two different occasions did not reset the system so the failure was apparently mechanical in nature. In addition, I could not eject my CDs. I received the name of H&R from both the mechanic who works on my truck as well as the local Nissan dealer.
I arrived at H&R without an appointment and the gentleman with whom I spoke patiently explained my options to me. Essentially, I could replace it with a new radio/single CD system with iPOD and USB adapters or have them remove, repair and reinstall the existing factory RF system. Since I am a little older and have a fair number of CDs, I opted to have H & R remove, repair and reinstall the existing radio system.
The cost was a flat repair rate of $325 + $75 (labor) + $24 (tax) = $424. I do not know how or by whom the flat rate is set but I thought that it was on the high side.
The gentleman gave me the option of removing the radio while I was there which saved me having to make an appointment and an extra trip back to their facility which was very helpful. The only issue was that the person removing the RF system cracked the center console in two places when removing the radio. They brought this to my attention and said they would order a new center console piece and install it at no charge when they reinstalled the radio. While not thrilled, I do understand that the dash and console can become somewhat brittle and weakened, especially after 7 years where the car sits outside every day. Consequently, their offer to replace the center console piece at no charge to myself was acceptable and I did not give them a hard time about it.
It was necessary to order the CD changer parts as well as the replacement center console so I was without my radio for approximately 1 week which was very reasonable in my opinion.
The center console and RF system were reinstalled in less than 30 minutes and everything looked good. It is very nice to have a working 6-disc CD changer in my truck again. In additon, they were able to remove my 6 CDs from the failed CD changer and install them in the new 6-disc CD changer.
I was satisfied with the work that was done.
