Called several companies for quotes and liked very much the professionalism and respect we received from R & S. The job was a particularly difficult one. The floors in the living and dining room had been refinished by the prior owner who knew enough about the job to be dangerous. He gouged the wood in many places leaving the floors noticeably damaged. The fellows from R&S wondered if the former owner had been digging for gold! They promised to get about 90% of the gouges out and to leave the rest in a state that would not draw the eye. The job was completed in four days. They were always on time and courteous. The quality of the work is wonderful, especially in light of what they had to deal with in the first place -- I honestly thought I was in for a complete replace, but R&S managed to save these floors and make them look lovely. I've worked with a lot of contractors and I know a good outfit when I see one, and R&S is one of those rare companies that takes pride in what they do, and that do not try to sell you on something that you do not need (for example, I thought we would need the upstairs floors all done, but the pointed out that these had not been refinished by the prior owner but had been done professionally and that they still had a good bit of life left in them before the need to refinish would arise).

Junior from R&S came out in June to provide estimate.  I received 3 others estimates and R&S was the lowest.  I called and scheduled the work to be done.  I was disappointed that they were so busy they were scheduling two months in the future.  They were able to move up their timeline by two weeks to get to me by the end of August.  That they are that busy is great for them and a testament to the demand for their quality work.  For me it was an inconvenience as I had to move out of my apartment a week before they could start the work.  So I had to complete this big move into my house, keeping the furniture in the garage, and then move out for 5 days while the work was done the following week.  During that week (and not the fault of R&S) a storm flooded my area of Allentown, and sewer back up destroyed all my living room furniture that was in my garage.  
R&S did a top notch job, sanding and refinishing the floors in my living room & dining room, cutting out and replacing badly worn wood, as well as sanding and refinishing the steps to the second floor.  They installed 3 coats of poly (all the other companies were only going to install 2 coats).  They were able to repair and keep the original 1933's hardwoods intricate inlay (dark wood inlay inset around the lighter regular wood).   
I am blown away by how good the floors look and what a great job R&S did in restoring the floors to original condition.  For anyone that saw my floors prior to the refinishing, my friends and neighbors have complimented me on how the floors look now.  I am not the one to take the credit, R&S did an outstanding job.  
I highly recommend them to anyone who needs floors sanded and refinished.

My experience was just as it should have been. I was treated respectfully and professionally by everyone from the receptionist to the gentlemen who did the work. I got 5 quotes (all from suppliers that I identified on Angie's List) and R&S compared favorably or exceeded the competitive quotes. They were prompt, they made every effort to protect the rest of the house from sanding dust, and the floors are lovely. They made every effort to instruct me on how to properly care for the floor after the refinishing and came back readily to address some molding issues. It was a job well and gracefully done.

We had moved all of the furniture out of the first floor and I had ripped up the old carpeting to save a little money.  Then we were off on vacation.  When we came back, the new floors were completedalong with new white quarter round molding accenting the ranch molding in every room.
We did find what looked to be a pencil eraser stuck in the poly in the floof (later to find out that this was a piece from one of the installers shoes), but we called and they came out the next day and repaired this little spot.

They are not done yet.  They finished it with two coats because we are re-doing part of the kitchen.  So they will comeback after the kitchen cabinets will be put in.  We are very happy with them.  We would gladly refer them to anyone.

Work was performed promptly, professionally and as expected.  The only surprise was that the variability of the red oak was greater than I expected from select red oak. One piece almost looks like another species. Since this is my first hardwood floor, I'm not going to complain, but next time I may look more carefully at the boards while they are installing them.

The living room floor was previously carpeted. We had already removed all carpet, padding, tack strips and nails. The living room floor is adjacent to an existing hardwood floor in the dining room that was installed and finished at the time the house was built, 25 years ago. I wanted a new hardwood floor that would be seamless with the existing 25 year old floor in the adjacent room, which is connected by a 4 foot wide doorway. I had done some research with the builder of the house to find out the type of wood and the stain/finish used 25 years ago. The representative from R & S was prompt, friendly and competent. He independantly assessed the existing hardwood in the next room correctly, confirming the information provided by the builder. He assured me that the new floor would be extremely close in appearance, as they would use the same wood (unfinished 2 1/4" select red oak) and stain. The crew arrived on schedule, explained the process clearly, noting that the existing adjacent floor was somewhat orange-ish, due to 25 years of sunlight and that the new floor would be as close as they could get to it color-wise. They put up plastic in the doorways and got to work. They removed the existing baseboards and installed the floor on day one. Over the next 4 days, they sanded and stained and finished, and reinstalled the existing baseboards . They cleaned up thoroughly each day and were always pleasant and respectful. There are 2 differences when comparing new to old floor...1) the color in the new floor is not as orange and 2) the new floor is a satin finish, while the old floor is glossy (somewhat worn). As the crew explained, the satin finish is a closer match to the old glossy worn finish, due to wear. A glossy finish on the new would be a noticeable difference. The finished product is beautiful and the transition from old dining room floor to new living room floor actually is seamless to the casual observer. Even though I know the living room floor is new, it seems as if it has always been there. R & S did a terrific job !

From the first telephone call to the day of service, we were extremely pleased with R&S Hardwood Flooring.  Very professional, I would not hesitate to use their services again and have no hesitation in recommending their services.  We had our deck ready for them when they arrived, They sanded all the old paint off. What a world of difference.  We actually stained the deck, but could not have finished our project on time without R&S.  THANK YOU!!

The floors are just lovely. They match the existing wood perfectly. I couldn't have hoped for anything better. I can't say enough about how impressed I am, not only with the way the final product turned out, but also with the friendly and accomodating way the project was handled, from start to finish. With one week left until the movers arrived with our furniture, I knew it was going to take a miracle to have the floors done in time, but R&S rearranged its schedule to accomodate us and got the job done with three days to spare. The men who did the job were professional, courteous and left the work area clean. I would highly recommend them and am looking forward to doing business with them in the future.

I paid around $3800 for the job. A lot of people had recommended them to me. They completed the work in almost 3 days. I moved the furniture. The floors look good now. Their prices were fair. They answered my questions and did what I had asked them to do. They supplied the products. They matched up with the flooring I had in my dining room and hallway. They were very punctual, prompt and very courteous. They will be coming back to resurface two more rooms for me.

R&S displays the professionalism and quality one would expect from a 50+ year old firm. The owners and team are friendly, helpful, respectful and a pleasure to work with. The finished product is exceptional and competitively priced. Installing floors can be messy, but this team build barriers, and cleans up each and every visit. In any project like this problems arise, and R&S deals with issues in a quick, friendly and helpful way. We would not go any where else for our future flooring needs.
