My dog has had a lot of health issues and the doctors at Metropolitan are great. The male ortho surgeon is a bit full of himself and his bedside manner is terrible bc he always seemed in a rush and very dismissive. I also had a female neurologist who was dismissive and spoke in medical terms when telling me about my dog. I asked to speak in lay man's terms but she ignored me. The ER doctors are great which is nice when your dog needs help. So I'd say it's a pretty good medical staff. But the nursing staff and front desk staff is a whole different ball game. During the quarantine, you had to call when you got there. So one time, I called and the phone would ring and ring and I'm outside with a sick dog. When the receptionist finally picked up, I told her I called 3 times and no one picked up. This is 4 o'clock in the afternoon. She was annoyed that I was telling her no one picked up. If your understaffed that is not my problem. The one girl who sits in the middle of the desk with the glasses is the worst, most rude person I've ever met. She has a resting ***** face on at all times and just acts like your bothering her. When you have a sick dog and dogs can't tell you what is wrong, it's so stressful. So you go to a place you feel will help you and your going to pay a lot of money for services, you don't need a rude, ****** off receptionist looking at you like your bothering her. She must know somebody bc she's been there a long time and her behavior has to have rubbed other people the wrong way. I hope someone at metro reads this and does something about her bc I'm really thinking about going somewhere else. That's how rude this girl is. It's just not cool. The nurses are generally very caring and nice but there are a few who are rude and one even hung up in me when I was trying to give her pertinent info about my dog. You can be sure I let her know I didn't appreciate it. I've read reviews by people who have worked there and most talked about a toxic, high school atmosphere amoungst the staff. I can totally see that bc I've felt that way a few times when I was there. But as long as your place is the only hospital in the area, rude staff and treating people poorly doesn't factor in. But I'm sure making money does. Clean up your front desk staff, have the nurses be more compassionate bc Remember this metro... One bad apple ruins the whole bunch.

Horrible customer service, tried convincing me to pay $1,000 in tests that were less than $200 elsewhere and the list goes on and on. Blatantly rude, told my fiancé and I different things to get more out of us and overall very disorganized.

Chichi took a turn for the worse on a Friday and I took her down there. My vet gave her oxygen and she pulled her around. She was not going to be there at night. She said to me, ?look, she?s fine now, she?s stabilized!? She was fine. She said, ?but it you run into trouble take her down to Metropolitan. She kept her till she was like closing. Then I brought her home and I guess it was like 2 hours later, she was all of a sudden, her tongue had already started to turn blue. I could tell she was in bad shape. I said, ?lets run her down to Metropolitan? and she never made it to the hospital. Metropolitan took her and Metropolitan had her cremated for me. They were very nice. They creamated her and had the ashes. At one point a Dr. Gross had done the eye surgery on herMetropolitan had sent me a sympathy card. Dr. Gross sent me a sympathy card, plus he had made a contribution to the University of Pennsylvania in her name. Once again, I was just blessed with good veterinarian care all the way around. When I picked her up, she came in what looked like a little casket, a wooden casket and her name was on top of it, and it had a heart with her foot print in it. They're expensive, they're not cheap. They have great facilities. They chargeed me. I called them ahead of time and said I was taking her down. They advised me that it was like $100 something dollars to bring her in the door. I said, "I don't care!" They always do that when you call the emergency hospital. By the time we had sat down she had passed, so they just charged me for the actual cremation.

My Yorkie needed surgery for a torn cruciate ligament in his left rear leg. One of my past dogs had this done at Metropolitan years ago, twice, once for each rear leg. The outcomes were excellent. The surgeries were performed by excellent surgeons- Doctors Cabel and Nanos. This time, for some reason, we wound up with a doctor who had just started with the service. The surgery was performed, we took our dog home, and after a time, he still couldn't stand on his left rear leg. We took him back to Metropolitan, and he was X-Rayed. The films showed that the surgery needed to be performed again. Again, it was to be by the same and quot;newbyand quot; who did the first operation, instead of it being placed in the hands of one of the experienced staff. Foolishly, we let it happen.
Again, the surgery failed!! And the same surgeon expected us to let him do the operation a third time!!
We took our dog home, and found out who was an excellent orthopedic surgeon at the Ryan Animal Hospital at the University of Pennsylvania. We took our dog to her. She had X-rays taken, and found that there were now several problems. She said that surgery might not fix all of the problems, and we understood and permitted the surgery to happen. It did not correct the problem. We do not hold it against the doctor at Penn. Our dog was ruined beyond repair by the surgeon at Metropolitan.
My dog's left rear leg is frozen into a rigid position. He falls a lot, and cannot walk steps. He sort of walks sideways.

Three weeks later, we still have not received the hobble even though we paid $200 for it, and $500 for the assessment. I called after a week and was told it wasn't in yet. I called after two weeks, and was told it wasn't in it. I expressed my disappointment both that the service was so slow and that their communications were absent. If this was going to be a lengthy process, they should've told me ahead of time and should've kept in touch with me. After two weeks, the staff had Dr. Schwab speak with me. He suggested that my expectations were unrealistic and that I should just be patient. I am now at three weeks. I haven't heard from Metropolitan since I last called them a week ago. Our dog is still limping. Metropolitan should communicate better and help its clients set reasonable expectations.

We used the internal medicine doctor 3 years ago with another doctor, and Dr. Rau is very good. We are due to go see her again in February. She is very personable, very helpful, very patient in helping what was going on, the options, and the pros and cons. We have had several visits which were within 500-700 Dollar range. Depending on what we were doing. There were times when we had chemo and ultra sound done on the same day. They were a little expensive, but they were worth it. There were a couple times when we would go in, and have to wait.

I got a very good service there all around. They were very compassionate and very caring. They did a really good job of taking care of my pet and providing the grief support afterward. The bedside manner is good.

They were very good and talked us through about what to do before we could get there. They are about half an hour away from where we are. She was out of the seizures before we got there. He is very thorough in his examination. We didn't actually see what he did but he was very good with explaining great details because it took him a great deal of time. He explained what the possibilities were and what was going on. As it turns out our dog has some kind of a epilepsy which is not that uncommon; we have never heard of it and it was really scary. They can't communicate so it is hard to say what they are going on. We had to pay out of pocket. We think he has got very good judgment in not getting too carried away. We have other dog emergencies where in the heat of the moment we are throwing everything out there and spending a lot of money on tests. He was very good about not getting carried away with lot of diagnostic tests. We think he was really good at diagnosing what was going on without going in for extensive tests. Our dog has had seizures since then but with the information that he gave us we have a better handle on what to do about it now and what seizures are real emergencies. He prepared us for what was to come so that we could deal with it. My dog is a little bit of a mixed breed. He said that it could be a onetime thing or it could be that she could have more seizures. We would have to worry when it happens very frequently or if it happens for a long period of time. So, if it happens for more than 5 minutes then it becomes critical. Their nervous system can go so haywire that they can go into hypothermia and can do damage to their organs.

My cat exhibited hiding behavior and going outside the litter box. I took her to Metropolitan Emergency Care at 11 at night and was seen right away. they kept her overnight and sent my cat home the next day. The vet herself came out to see me in the waiting room to discuss the likely causes and went over several approaches with the associated cost. The vet was cognizant about my cat's recent eye surgery and tried to keep the costs to a minimum. When my cat was discharged, the vet tech went over my cat's after care in depth. In June 2011 I had been referred to Metropolitan by my primary vet for my cat's eye problem. My vet takes her cat to Metropolitan for specialty care. Can't beat that!. In all the staff at Metropolitan was friendly, professional and showed a real caring for pets and there owners. Highly recommended.

We got a puppy a while ago and he elbow dysplasia and it required surgery. She was very conservative and wanted to wait and see how he does. I took him to a trainer to strengthen his elbows. He ended up and didn't need the surgery. Last Tuesday she confirmed that his elbows were fine. We went from a possible $5,000.00 surgery, to him outgrowing it and his body resolving the issue. The reason this is so great is because his brother had the same thing and that puppy's veterinarian did surgery right away. That puppy is still trying to recooperate from it. I think it is very had to find doctors and veterinarians that aren't just out for the money.
