He was unpredictable in keeping to schedule, in mood, and in quality of his work. I believe he is competent when he chooses to be. One doorway was completed almost satisfactorily, but the door itself was not hung evenly, he did not insert insulation around it, and did not fill the hole in the floor where later I had a 27.5" x 3.5" threshhold installed to cover the hole. Mike left the other doorway incomplete: he did hang the door, but did not install a lintel above it (it's on the 2nd of a 3 floor home), leaving a foot deep gaping hole in the exterior wall above the door; and he did not cover a hole in the floor with a threshold (this one required a 28.5" x 9.5" threshold). The plaster around the doorway was so uneven at the edges that I had to hire someone else to redo it (as well as to make the thressholds for the doorways and to instal a lintel). He did not sand or paint the plaster he put around either doorway. He did not respond to my request, first through the architect, and when that did not bring a response, then directly in writing from me, to pay half the cost of completing the job after he had left it incomplete.
Description of Work: An architect friend referred me to Mike to install two doorways, each with a metal fire door, in the side wall of my historic trinity before another compny installed a fire escape leading from them. He met with me, the architect and the fire escape company to plan the project and all seemed well. He hung plastic to minimize the inevitable dust created from chopping through foot-thick walls. He cut out the doorways, ordered & installed the doors, and did some plastering to create even walls around the doorway frames.
