The work exceeded my wildest expectations. This is now not only a family heirloom but a beautiful and valuable piece of quality furniture that I am proud to display in my dining room. Jim completed the work ahead of schedule -- and I was so impressed with his custom repair work on the item's legs. I could never have purchased a new piece like this for the price that Jim charged for restoration. However, even if I could buy a new piece of furniture, it would not have the same inherent value that this piece has - which has been in family for several generations. Jim at Quartersawn seemed to understand this and treated the piece with as much care as I have (probably more!).
"I'm sorry that the customer was inconvenienced. As far as the notch having been missed, I can only say that all drawers are not created equal and overlooking this detail without the dresser in the shop can be easily done. Now, an offer was made to fix this in the customer's home so as not to inconvenience her further. That seems to me to be only good business practice, apparently not good enough in this case. Areas that seemed to be held together with "small staples" were actually glued and stapled with adequate sized staples. I would not need staples for better quality drawers held together with dovetailed joints, but these were not of sufficient quality. The joinery on these would not hold up without glue and staples together. Something the customer did not mention in her review was the fact that I had to totally rebuild the drawers, doing much more work on them than was previously discussed and at no additional cost to the customer. This also was a consequence of the poor quality of the drawers. I suppose I'm also not getting much credit for doing the coat tree job for free, nor that fact that I completed the job ahead of schedule. Finally (and this makes me chuckle), what exactly is the customer's point about the age of my website photo? I mean, really???”"
"I am truly sorry that this customer feels this way, and the problems could have been rectified immediately had the customer brought this to my attention within a reasonable amount of time. The customer never approached me personally, but rather wrote this review on work he says was done one year ago, when in fact, it was done over two years ago. Note to members: Please register your complaints upfront and you may have a better outcome. Don't wait seething for two years. I certainly would have fixed the problem right away. As it is, the customer still has not responded to my offers to take care of the situation, no matter the cost to me. I will, however, be sending a full refund, but I doubt I'll get the chance for any further contact. As for the stability of the chair, there is no doubt a greater problem than just the stretcher repair, which is all I was hired to do. It is very possible that this chair, especially two years on, is in need of an overall reglue job, something which was not in the original contract. Note to members: Define the parameters of the job at the outset and not expect anything more than that. The "good price" I gave the customer really was at the lowest end of the invoicing that I do. So it is disturbing that my business has been dragged through the mud, as it were, for a low paying job that I could easily have corrected given the opportunity. I urge the customer to read again the other reviews of my work here and decide if this is an anomaly or something routine with me."
"I thank the member for her generally favorable response. Her main caveat seems to be the metal brackets that needed to be created by a metal smith, as they are peculiar to her type of bed. I located such a business for her and explained that this was not in my own capacity. It should be noted that the metal work was not in the original agreement. Any work on the two metal parts was beyond that agreement. I am really sorry that my efforts left a customer a little dissatisfied. I wish the member had noted this dissatisfaction to me at the time of delivery."
