Plumbing
Derek was late or just simply did not show up many, many times. The rest of the work went around him. All of which would have been fine if the work was really great. Instead, he forgot to install a line for the dishwasher, which made it so we had to drill through our new kitchen cabinets to compensate. The following summer we found out that he rerouted the water main coming into the house (which made sense... so it wouldn't run under the new slab) but connected it 6 inches below ground. He also ran the water line to the barn, not at its original depth (30 inches) but also at 6 inches. Our patio project was put on hold while we dealt with that, losing our spot with the stone masons and extending a 3 week project out to the whole summer. Most recently, in March 2013, when I finally called a repairmen for our dryer because it had been taking longer and longer to dry a load, we found out that he installed the vent incorrectly, adding three 90 degree turns to it, which renders it useless. I recall that the vent was supposed to run down, to its original location (the dryer moved about 6 feet), but because he didn't show up for about two weeks, Kirk decided he needed to install the hardwood floors and contacted Derek to see if he could instead vent the dryer up to the roof. So that's what they did. That decision was made willy-nilly and not at all taking into account the installation instructions. There are three 90-degree turns on a vent that is too small for the job, which adds 21 feet, in addition to the actual run of about 18 feet, to a run that should be no more than 20 feet..The solution is to tear out hardwood flooring and drywall, or buy a $1200 condensation dryer. Not at all happy.
The radiant heat he helped install, because the HVAC guy didn't show up and he supposedly knew about this, doesn't work. It has to be reinstalled, which means we have to tear out drywall to fix it. As of March 2013, we haven't dealt with that yet.
