Michel is a very competent carpenter and renovations expert. He has knowledge of most aspects of building construction. The thing that impresses me most is the detail he puts into his work. Michel is very creative and is a true artist. He has family members who help him and do a fine job also.
The first phase was our kitchen, which was a total renovation. I did some of the work including tearing down a wall (with a structural engineer's approval) and installing drywall, insulation, and ceiling. I hired Troy Granite to do the countertops (awesome job too) and they recommended Maison Bois to install cabinets. I was so impressed with their work, I hired them to install banisters, repair some flooring where the wall was removed, and build a closet into an existing bathroom.
The next phase included major work and I hired Maison Bois. They did light electrical work, plaster repairs, tiled a new shower, built three closets, installed drywall, mudded joints, installed ceilings and insulation, hung doors, performed many repairs, built walls, and ran vents. I am sure I left out some things. Every day things were cleaned up, tools and supplies were put away. We lived in the house during the whole process, through all the dust and noise. Michel and team made the process as bearable as possible. This phase was done over about 2 months. My fiancé and I installed floors, chose and ordered supplies, sometimes picked up supplies, and painted. Maison Bois did most of the rest.
Michel was good to work with us as we wanted to do some of the labor ourselves to save money. That was a huge deciding factor for us, not just any contractor will work with you that well.
The only challenge was language. Although Michel speaks three languages, he is just learning English. His wife, Jenna, works with him and is a good translator. She has lived in Pittsburgh for 12 years and speaks good english. I would suggest checking in on them rather frequently to make sure your wishes are understood. They are more than willing to please and will do their best to do so.
Michel worked in France as a contractor before moving to U.S.A. His knowledge  and creativity was definitely shaped by european architecture and I would say that both traditional and modern styles are his forte. We incorporated both in our eclectic design and are very pleased with the results. The suggestions he made were both professional, functional and classy. We couldn't be happier with our experience with Maison Bois, LLC and will not hesitate to hire them for any future projects.
