At first it appeared the job went well. During the 2013 summer, when the job was first done, the driveway looked great. Then during the 2013-2014 winter, the cement began to pop up and flake off the top. We called Kaday and he came out during the Spring of 2014 and blamed the damage on rock salt. He mentioned about resurfacing the driveway and said he would call us after he discussed the issue with the concrete supplier. We never heard from him again. Despite numerous attempts, including a letter, we never heard back.
We are not sure why the rock salt issue would become a problem or should even be a problem. We live in Erie, PA and rock salt being carried onto the driveway from the road is inevitable. If the rock salt was the main problem, then a stronger grade of concrete should be used along with a top grade sealer to help prevent this type of damage. None of these concerns were communicated during the bid or after the work was performed. Also we mentioned sealing the concrete after the work was completed, but he said it was not necessary.
The lack of communication and lack of help to remediate the issue is inexcusable. All this money saved to get the driveway re-done and now it looks terrible. We cannot afford to re-do it all again. We are highly disappointed.
At the time, we had very inclement weather, and I suggested that we wait to do the project. Mr. Kaday insisted the work could be done and would be OK. There was a lot of rain, cold AND heat!
The form for the steps sagged, and the employee working on them did not fix the form. Also brushed in the pattern very differently from the patio.
Mr. Kaday came back and jack hammered out the sagging step, but used the same material to make a new form. The step not only sagged again, but now there is a very obvious cut out line, and hardened lumps of concrete around the steps that were not cleaned up. I could not see the poor workmanship before he left as the step was covered with both the form and plastic.
I did not call him back a third time.
I will have to get the steps repaired correctly sometime in the future.
There is also concern because he did not tamp down the underlying stone and dirt, just used the bobcat, running it over several times, but couldn't get close to the house with the machine.
Mr. Kaday was pretty much on time, and very courteous, but I feel the quality of work was wanting.
My driveway was left a mess with spilled concrete that they tried to clean up, and oil leaking from his truck, and an employee's car.
I would not recommend.
