I used A-1 Moving for a short cross town move. The movers arrived more than 2 hours late in a Budget rental truck making us late for another appointment at our new place where we had a service technician waiting. In the course of the move, they scratched my new 60" TV,broke an end table and a bedroom mirror frame, chipped 1 imported marble table top and lost another. The movers shook me down for cash 3/4 ways through the move. I saw the a mover drop the coffee table marble piece and contacted the owner, Damien Silverstein who then gave me a false name (Silvers). I told him of the damage to the TV and coffee table and asked for an insurance form and ID for him and PUC License number for his company be provided to me. I also explained that I would not pay for any expenses while my possessions were still loaded on the truck. The owner refused and ordered his employees not to unload the truck, even though I had showed them the cash and explained to them that I would pay them as soon as the truck was unloaded and I was able to inspect my possessions for further damage and provided with some sort of documentation regarding insurance. Mr Silverstein then called the Pittsburgh Police Department to resolve the dispute. The police arrived and had the movers unload the rest of the truck. They then spoke to Mr Silverstein via phone and advised him that I had a complaint and that he was to provide an insurance form and other documents as his movers did not have them in the vehicle as required. Mr Silverstein stated that the forms would be emailed to me within 1 hour. PPD gave me his true identity and advised me to contact a magistrate to seek compensation as the owner was not providing an insurance form and was being deceptive and uncooperative. Police also advised me that he has a criminal record, something that Mr. Silverstein has admitted. Owner Damien Silverstein refused to answer phone calls before, during and after the move and when contacted by text( he would not answer his phone after the police had left my residence) for an insurance form, Mr Silverstein replied "Leave me alone A**hole, I'm having a rough day". He later replied that he would would resolve this issue by the next day. Mr Silverstein then did not comply and has not had any further contact with me except to send threatening texts and post libelous ads on CL. He has threatened me several times with a libel suite(he says he has a paralegal certificate) but it seems unlikely as he has repeatedly used the term "slander" when the correct term is libel. Mr Silverstein, please remember that slander is spoken falsehoods (S=S) and written falsehoods are libel. You can not sue for libel if only the truth is told. First Amendment - something that he also seems to have missed in his Paralegal "studies".You can, however, sue for damaged goods and dishonest services and he has been reported to the PUC.
