Prior to getting work done - I received cost quote 99/hr - job would take about 2 hours - and 1 person needed - plus parts. Expecting 200 plus bill - received bill for 515 - OUCH! An un-needed helper came along at 45/hr - and although they worked for a bit over 2 hrs - I was billed for 3 hr labor now 145/hr (and it included travel and prep time). I spoke with Skip the owner who hollered at me over the phone! Gee, I only dealt with them for 35 plus years. They were sent a check covering 1 persons labor for 2.5 hrs labor plus parts. And I was told to never call them again! Not Recommended

I came home from a wedding and it was cold plus I had house guests. I called Sunday morning and someone was at my house during the Steeler Game! It was $150 for an hour for labor. The guy went and picked up a reconditioned part for $20. He was friendly and professional. EXCELLENT. The only thing is he said I needed a new furnace and they would be up to give me a quote. I'm calling around for a second opinion...

Showed the project to Mike T. and explained it all, and was informed it
would be more than a week to get the bid. On the 10th day I had not
heard from Carl Garrett & Son, so I called. Mike said he had
started to put bid together a week earlier, but that I may not like the
price so he stopped working on the bid! His bid was for 4
high-efficiency furnaces and duct work that he ballparked would be
around $30K for the 5 unit apartment bldg. WHEN WAS HE GOING TO TELL
ME?! Never going to call them again! Unprofessional. Epilogue to
story: a reputable company bid the job for $19K for 5 high-efficiency
furnaces and ductwork.

In February I was informed that my furnace had a crack in the heat exchanger. I live in a manufactured home and the furnace is on the main level of the house. I wanted the furnace moved to the basement. That meant pretty much all new ductwork as well as new returns. The air conditioner was as old as the furnace so rather than be inconvenienced this summer having to replace it, I decided to have both replaced. After doing much research, I decided to go the extra step and have a heat pump installed rather than an air conditioner. The project manager, Mike, was very informed on all of the equipment and spent enough time with me to be sure I understand the workings of a heat pump. I only have access to propane where I live and with the cost of propane increasing every year, a heat pump is a viable option. I work full time and have a medium sized dog. The gentlemen showed up on time the first day so I could get them in to look at the scope of the work. They were very nice and interacted with my dog to set me at ease. We arranged an equally acceptable schedule where my Dad could be here during the day in case they needed anything and even contacted him directly if they're schedule changed. I certainly would have been comfortable having them enter my house whether or not anyone was here. The job ultimately took 12 days to complete. The work space in my basement was all cleaned up and the old equipment hauled away. They even left the copper piping for my Dad to scrap for a few bucks! No weekend work so I still had my weekends to run errands. A couple of days after they finished, I asked that one of their technicians come by in the afternoon when I could be here to explain the workings of the heat pump and thermostat. They accommodated my schedule and a gentleman came by on his way home and went over all of the new equipment and what service I need to do to keep things in top shape. All in all a painless experience.

I called Garretts around the beginning of Nov. 2013 and asked for an est. on a new furnace after noticing that the burners in my 23yr. old American standard were beginning to look frail. Talked to Mike and requested a quote for a new furnace and AC unit. We made an appointment and Mike showed up on the appointed day at time specified and looked at the furnace and AC and explained which furnace he would recommend and what would be involved in the process of removing the old furnace and install of the new because, some adjustments had to be made for the combustion air and exhaust as my old furnace did not have outside air piping. He quoted the price which I found reasonable and we agreed to set up a date to have this done. On the given date the workers showed up at 9 am and proceed to prep the area around furnace with drop cloths, and within the hour the furnace was removed. This happened to be the coldest day in December and first snowfall but the workers managed to install and have heat in the house by 4pm. The next day they finished the furnace, cleaned up the area , and removed my old AC unit . Both Mike and I agreed to wait for spring to install new Condenser unit outside. I must say the workers were focused and efficient at their craft and polite and courteous and I was very pleased with their work.

We couldn't be happier w/ them or their work. I have only praise for this company and these people. We have probably dealt w/ them for at least 40 yrs. or even longer and have always been totally satisfied. They are friendly, thorough, and very knowledgeable. All pipes and wires are neatly fastened to the walls and there are no shortage of fasteners to hold things in place. They gave the job the time it need and didn't rush anything. They where here two and a half days. I meet a couple of the younger guys and I have as much confidence in them as I do the older guys that we have been dealing w/ through the yrs. We where planning on running the drain line to the outside of the house but wound up putting it inside to a drain in the basement and I do believe that it was a little more involved and required a few more parts ((including a vent)) and pipe than if it would have been run outside and the bill stayed the same.

We called and they weren't sure when they would be able to come out but said they would call with a time later. They called in the afternoon and said they had an opening. We wanted the leak fixed ASAP so we said to come on over!
The plumber arrived, assessed the situation, and went to work. He had it all fixed up within a half an hour. We were glad to find that it wasn't a serious issue.
We would use Carll Garrett and Son, Inc. again for any future plumbing issues.

They did a really good job. The team that came was very professional. They were very neat and clean. They put paper down when they came in and walked it out. They did well. They were excellent.

We have used Carl Garrett and Sons before. They do good work, are very professional and they do emergency work too.
My only negative comment is that they do not take appointments for annual service calls, so it is hit and miss as to
when they call and someone happens to be home. This can cause a lot of phone tag. Other than that we are very pleased.

I know that they may seem a little high on the price but I give them an 'A' because the quality of their work, their knowledge, and their response time especially when you need them is terrific. They have provided us with many years of trouble free heating and air conditioning.
They clean the A/C unit in the attack and outside the house very thoroughly. They use a cleaning solution and flush it out very well. They check the freon as well and just inspect everything in general.
They are just as thorough with maintaining the heater as well.
We have dealt with them as long as I can remember. I'm 57 now and I will continue dealing with them. My 91 year old mother lives with me and they provide me with a great deal of peace in the winter in case there is a problem with our heater which they installed. We have had them here in the winter for past emergencies so I'm talking from experience and like I said their response time and thoroughness is terrific.
They installed our hot water furnace, two registers in our basement, and our hot water tank and did all the plumbing as well for these installations. They did a very professional job and first class work.

They were very good, we did not have to replace the whole furnace, they did not sell us something just to sell. Very good job.

Everything was finished within 3 working days. We set up the date in advance. They called and asked me to leave my place unlocked for the time they would be working. They never once bothered me at work and everything went exactly as planned. Price wise, they seemed comparable to other quotes I had. They were the cheapest by maybe a couple hundred bucks. I am pleased with their ability to get it done efficiently. They really know what they are doing. I was especially pleased with the poured foundation for the AC unit; most others would only level and lay stone.

Linda in the office was great to work with as she understood the issue and had flexibility in the crew to assign the job once the gas company completed turning on the gas. Ron showed up who has done work for us before and his happy go lucky positive attitude is always refreshing on the job site. He pointed out some things and I asked him to cap off a gas line that had no purpose to ensure no future headaches - I do not work on gas but do most of my own work rehabbing. He stated what I should do in the bathroom as far as adding a floor vent and some other pointers that will save money/enhance the property in the long run. I ran to a hardware store to get a part they did not have on the truck to save myself some time/money while he was working on the furnace. The old thing actually fired up and will get me through the rehab time at which point when I refinance in the next month or two I plan on having a 92% new furnace installed by Carl Garrett and Sons. The company is solid, the rates are average but the people are what make the difference. My wife and I plan on buying 6-10 properties this year - you can guess who does my Heating/AC work.

I actually had called another company who had canceled after I took the day off from work. I was super pissed-read their review elsewhere. I called Garrett's because I remembered we used to use them @ a pizza shop I worked at as a kid. They were very busy and stated they would call when they could schedule. I found that odd as usually the person answering usually scheduled in the past. She stated it may be a day or two depending on the work load. I got a call a couple of hours later and gentleman and apprentice showed up at the house. They had the furnace clean and humidifier part replaced in less than an hour. Nice clean hardworking guys. I plan to use them in a bid for a rental I just bought for a new furnace. I have been unhappy so far with the companies I have used for Heat&AC.

Ken, one of the owners of the company and the son of Carl, is a wonderful plumber and an extremely nice man. I use him for all of my heating, plumbing, and air conditioning work. He arrived on time, installed the unit with ease very quickly, and charged me a more than reasonable price. I appreciate his services and would highly recommend him to others as honest fair and knowledgeable.

I NOTICED THE PROBLEM AND THEY RESPONDED THE SAME DAY. THEY TOOK THEIR TIME, MADE SURE THEY GOT TO THE HEART OF THE PROBLEM AND WERE COURTEOUS AND PROFESSIONAL.
