The mechanic who worked on my car was one of the owners. He is eligible to retire, and has been cutting down on his hours. He was not working full days. As a consequence, my car was in the garage for a longer time than one would usually want to experience. This posed no hardship for me as I have other vehicles to use, so I was not really insistent to get the work done faster.
The job was a difficult one, as the car is a four-wheel drive which makes for complications in removing the transmission. At one point, I visited the garage, and the mechanic showed me the transmission on his work bench. He was very good at explaining the parts and how they interacted. The car was stored inside while the transmission was being worked on (on the bench). The work was done professionally, although it generally took longer than one would expect due to the reduced hours of the mechanic/partner.
I had had previous experience with this garage when the clutch went out on my 1994 Mazda Miata. I had that car towed to Kand D, and the Mazda was repaired the next day! Turned out it was a master cylinder seal which was replaced at very low cost, when I was expecting to maybe have the clutch replaced.
Two other (significant) factors, 1. This transmission shop is the ONLY one that is universally recommended in the DuBois-Punxsutawney area despite a proliferation of other transmission shops; and 2. Kand D only accepts cash or money orders, they will not accept checks or any credit/debit cards. This can be a little inconvenient when paying the bill. Otherwise, I found the garage professionally run with top level service.

Kand D Transmission did an inspection of my 1998 Jeep Wrangler transmission recently. They spent quite a bit of time driving it and checking things out. I know nothing about cars but these folks put this transmission into this car eight years ago and wanted to make certain everything was still in good shape. They didn't charge me anything and said bring it back if I have any more concerns. They gave me advise on what they thought the problem might be and my garage confirmed it and made a simple fix on something else. I like it when people do not take advantage of customers who do not know anything about cars but depend on them to be honest.
