Owner was at first very responsive and personable and the new roof and gutters and gutter guards and initially it appeared that all was well. My father who owns the house was there at the time and I was away working for some months. When I came home, I noticed that the gutter guards were not installed in the back of the house. My father would never have noticed or called about it. I phoned and the company came out and installed them. One issue I wanted fixed with the new gutter was a large drip in the back when it rained hard. The owner tried to fix it, but it was never resolved and the owner refused to adjust the bill. In addition, there was sloppy work on the side of the house and some damage from the company and the owner would never take responsibility or refund any money. He was a very poor communicator; I would call and ask him to please ring the front door bell so I could discuss with him in person, but he would just show up and then later call me and tell me what he thought, that there was nothing he could do. He knew he had done bad business and didn't want to face me. Despicable business behavior! Have heard awful stories about him since.

GREAT! Not a single complaint - they were an awesome company and ever person he sent to work on our roof was kind and professional.

I got several different quotes, but Jim was very responsive and helpful in selecting the roof I needed. His crew were all very nice and worked through some bitter cold temperatures. It did take a little longer than I expected to get the work done and there were some nails that we found on our deck afterwards, but overall, we are very happy with our experience and the work that they did. We did notice one of the gutters had a leak in the corner and Jim was quick to fix it. He sent one of his guys out right away. Also, when they were installing the vents in the attic, one of his guys had the courtesy to take off his shoes (since we were getting new floors installed at the same time) as he walked through the house. Overall, very pleased with this company. Ironically, after we moved in, we found out our neighbor also used him for their roof 20 years ago and have had no problems, so we were happy to hear that!

The day started with a worker walking into my house uninvited with a lit cigarette in his hand. They put a ladder against a bench in my yard and broke it. The gutter was scratched and poorly designed causing a flood onto my bilco basement door when it rained. The door now needs to be replaced. I hired and paid someone else to fix the poor gutter design. When I pointed out issues, he refused to take pictures to document what he'd done up on the roof so that we could discuss it. I had to hire a house inspector to do that. It turns out that he did not use the material that was agreed to in the contract, but chose a material that he thought would be better for me. My goal was a white, reflective roof to aid in not heating up the room below. He used a brown, nonreflective material that surely absorbs light and heat like a black hole! When I documented all of the issues and asked him to speak to me about them, he refused to come and sued me in small claims court. He was not honest when he was in court. He hired a lawyer and surely did not make a profit in the process. Scuttlebutt in the neighborhood, which I found out subsequently, says he has "issues" with women. He certainly seemed to have issues with me when I simply asked him to document what he'd done.
Response from Strath Haven Roofing & Restoration
"I feel compelled to respond to the member's report on my company's work. We completed a small roof replacement at the member's residence on Aug. 1st 2007. This job took 1-1/2 days. When we were done she refused to pay unless i could "document" what we did.I offered to hire a home inspector at my expense to take pictures and write up a report, she refused. After 2 month's of back and forth letters i decided to take the member to small claims court in Media. I've been in business for 20 years and have never been taken to court or have had to sue anyone in court. I think that speaks for itself. On December 12,2007 Judge Stephanie Klein found in favor of Strath Haven Roofing. The member appealed the judgement. `On October 15,2008 we went in front of a board of arbitrators in Media. This a panel of 3 lawyers who try to arbitrate the dispute and to keep minor suits from cloging up the court of common pleas. The board of arbitators found in favor of Strath Haven Roofing. The member again appealed. Next up Court of Common Pleas. On July 2,2009 the case was heard by Judge Charles Burr. Judge Burr found in favor of Strath Haven Roofing. Three different court rooms, three different judges, all found in favor of Strath Haven Roofing. The record speaks for itself."

Strath Haven conferred with us about roof replacement options for our garage. They gave us a quote on a steel roof, which was about the same as another quote we got. The work involved some carpentry to repair the roof base, which was billed at an hourly rate. They added copper gutters and downspouts to both eaves. The work was done in a timely manner, despite the cold weather (December 09.) We were very satisfied with the the result and felt the job was fairly priced.

The job was very nicely done. He also did some flashing around the chimney and over the bay window. He cleaned up nicely after himself. He was able to answer all of my questions.

After replacing roof tiles which had blown off, I asked the owner to look at a problem we were having with water running off a small roof over our den area. I was told gutters would help the problem. I asked for an estimate on gutters on that addition portion of our house. Mr. Rothschild took the time to explain how it would look and work and sent a crew of two men who did a great job installing the gutters. Now when it rains the water runs of the roof and down the gutters and not down the window of a second floor bedroom.
