Brick and Stone Flatwork - Repair
Yes, I recommend this pro
Mr. Grady was great initially. He was very knowledgeable and friendly. He worked hard and pulled in others to assist; however, one day he just never came back to finish. I hope everything is ok with him.
Response from Grady's Painting Plastering/Construction
"was, hired to rebuild a stone front porch. prior,to starting of th is job the city of philadelphia issued a building danger violation the client did not disclose of this informathion until after the contract was agreed upon, and legally set in motion. at that point i had no way to turn other then to at least on my part,to keep my word, and do the job. the city of philadelphia officially gave me aok, on the job when fully completed. a set of pictures, were taken before job was started, during the job and after job was fully completed and inspected by the city of philadelphia. also, there was no complaints or any one complant to service magic"

Response from Grady's Painting Plastering/Construction
"well, you see the results, consumers windows were 109 years old at time of repairs.a wood window professionally restored will outlast any modern replacement window several times over.this is partly because its original period craftsmanship, but mostly it is because the first growth lumber used in period construction is far more stable, dense and rot resislant than any now available it doesnt make sense to replace a beautiful historic window that can last another century with modern replacement window which will last only 15 to 20 years..thats also true for,any type of small repairs, including, any wooden window 50 years and older."

Brick, Stone or Block Wall - Repair

We've hired many contractors, and few compare to Grady. We hired Grady to waterproof our basement. He performed the work with uncommon skill. Going beyond fixing the problem, he resculped our walls to yield a finished product that looked better than we anticipated. 4 years later, he returned to patch up a few cracks that developed, free of charge! I don't know of any other contractor that would provide this level of warranty/service. A consummate professional, he not only performs expert work, but also returns phone calls in a timely manner and is refreshingly honest and fair in terms of contracts and payment. We highly recommend him!

Window Frame Repair Service
Yes, I recommend this pro
I own an 90-year old historic colonial high school turned into a bed & breakfast. The windows were neglected over the past 20-30 years and in serious demand of work. Modern day window contractors were not going to understand this job. It's very difficult to find a contractor that will come through on a promise and has the skill to do as they boast. The day that Grady stepped into my 90 year-old home that needed historic window restoration, he became a part of the house. He knew exactly what had to be done. More importantly, he understood my expectations. These windows needed special attention. There was a level of detail required that not any expert would be able to handle. Grady took the time to learn their needs and stayed on the job until it was to my satisfaction. He even reworked an entire window just because I didn't like the way that it looked. Grady truly showed expertise with his ability to work on such a delicate job and even taught me a few things about historic window repair. He replaced broken antique glass with one just as aged and just as historic. If a window had to be completely rebuilt beyond his solid estimate, he did it without any complications to my budget. My windows are not only restored, but they are literally brought back from the past. Any enthusiast will appreciate the lint-seed oil, putty, and antique glass that was all restored to perfection. It was a pleasure having Grady work with us. He even stayed in the house at times to make sure he was available for the job. In fact, we're going to rename the room in which he stayed to "Grady's Den". Thank for bringing character and craftsmanship to my investment!

Exterior Shutters - Repair or Restore
He did an excellent job with a shutter that was in very poor condition. I had contacted many people regarding the shutter and either found no help or I was given the run around. George did exactly what he said he would and kept every promise regarding the time it would take to do the job. I could not have been more pleased with the quality of the work. You cannot even tell there was ever anything wrong with the shutter or where the repairs were made. His work is Grade A.
Response from Grady's Painting Plastering/Construction
"shutter, at time of repair was 173 years old made a special mix.of the existing rotted wood and two ploymears epox system and rebuilt, were needed hand grained to match wood, grain of shutter"

Plaster Repair
Recent experiences in finding and engaging contractors have not been good. George Grady is the exception. The job was fairly significant - a large portion of plaster with lath and mortar behind it was ruined due to a leak. George's price was fair, he showed up when he said he would - which meant several visits over a few weeks, did what he said he would, kept everything clean and the result was top-notch. On top of that he didn't request any compensation until 1/2 way done and then upon completion. As a result, I've asked George Grady to handle other projects for me.

Mr. Grady went above and beyond my expectations. He did the work that was asked to do and even repaired my side walk! He then checked on the work a year later to make sure the quality held up.

Mr. Grady was one of the most professional, friendly, and useful contractors with whom I have ever had the pleasure to work. He exceeded my expectations in every category. This man is more than a simple plaster contractor - he is an artist who is more than fair to his customer. I would recommend him to anyone who is looking to have a job done fairly, promptly, and completely.

Absolutely great! Quality, at lightning speed. He is very honest and informative. He walked us through the project everyday. Very thorough. Happily he will be back to restore 4 very old windows in our home rather than replace them with a lesser quality product. Love his philosophy of restore, not rip out. Saving our past, and the future. We've got lots of projects around our home, and will have Grady back to do them all. I'd recommend him to anyone.

We have a 200 year old house in Society Hill, and while the windows weren't original they were old and the wood was decaying. Rather than replace them, we hired Grady to repair the wood. We didn't even know that could be done. Now they look good, and the primary problems are fixed. They're not new windows, but they work and we didn't have to replace them according to the requirements of the Philadelphia Historical Commission.

Grady reconstructed the plaster work in our 100 year old twin, located in the Manayunk section of Philadelphia. He did a great job and saved us thousands over the less qualified and more expensive competition. Without question, we'll use him on future jobs.

I found Mr. Grady to be very courteous, and informative--he took me through each step of the process, and explained everything he was doing. I also appreciate how he took payment as needed, not all up front, and did not raise the estimate to an unreasonable level. The communication with him was good, and I feel his work was very well done. He took down the outside stucco to the brick, repainted, and then recovered and angled the base, so that the rain water flows away from the house. He also rebuilt the crumbling foundation to my back porch. I feel the quality of his work was very good.

Grady's repaired my mom's foundation, outside stairs, and numerous cracks in the plaster & lathe finish, and managed to get all the work done within a severely limited window of opportunity. After some paint, the place will look like new. My mom and I coudn't be more pleased!

We have a historical restoration building in downtown Washington, D.C. We had sent out nationally 75 bids for period construction and historical restoration work. This job included replication or historical tiles in all bathrooms and also replication of historical tiles in all hallways. Also the replication/repair of period wooden windows, which were rotted, also floors needed structural repairs made. There was a large amount of decorative plaster relief work, which had to be repaired, and molds made to replicate areas that were non-existent. The exterior had a great deal of masonry repair work which included repointing of all brick and stone work. Also included in the exterior of this job was stone carvings that needed repair/replacement. Out of all of the responses to our bids which we national bids we centered upon the most knowledgeable and gifted company probably the best in the U.S.A which was Grady"s Construction and Plastering of Wilkes-Barre, PA. His unique gifts had given us the opportunity to bring back the granger and integrity of this very important historical structure in downtown Washington, D.C. His honesty, talent and integrity is above and beyond any rating that your company offers.
