The two gentlemen arrived quite punctually and were very thorough. The furnace chimney did not require sweeping, nor did my fireplace, but they were able to take a look at the fireplace and advised me not to use it until it had been properly outfitted (it's an older fireplace, so this was not a surprise!) Instead of just completing the basic inspection and leaving, they also examined my dryer vent and took a look at my ductwork to see if it needed cleaning - and upon seeing I have some rather difficult to work with ducts, recommended another company because they felt they'd do the better job! Great to work with, punctual, honest folks, and fairly priced. What more can you ask from service people?

Top Hat is a common name for a chimney sweep, not a franchise, and therefore is easily confused. Second or 3rd time we've had them out to our home over the years. They inspected, performed maintenance, and cleaned up afterwards (both inside & out). They pointed out trimming needed on a neighbor's overhanging tree, so that we could address it. Also offered useful feedback when I mentioned future plans to improve the fireplace. Very professional. Highly recommend them.

They were great. They actually arrived a little early and were very friendly. During the vent cleaning process, they discovered the vent guard on the outside vent was not attached properly and so they fixed that as well. They were great and I would highly recommend them to anyone else.

Top Hat did an excellent job. Prior to this, two alternative companies had given wildly different estimates that we suspected were driven by unprofessional motives. The inspection by Top Hat's staff was thorough and honest. They took extra time to explain their findings, as well as other aspects of the chimney and stove function, along with advice for its safe use. Their professionalism and clear explanations were superb, and I highly recommend them. We will be using their services again.

This was the second time I've used Top Hat. The first was 2 years ago. The chimney was due for a cleaning and we had also noticed smoke entering the house the last couple of times we used it, so we were concerned. I shared my concern with the employee and he knowledgeably responded by asking if I happened to have been running our clothes dryer while trying to light the fire. I told him that was very likely (but that I didn't remember). He explained the air flow dynamics that would have been at play...so helpful! He then cleaned the chimney and was done within about 40 minutes. I asked him about a crack in the back of the fire box that we had been keeping an eye on over the years. He had to go back to take a look, then told me it was OK and not a worry. While that was great news, it made me a little uneasy that he had to go back to look...hadn't he noticed it (it is very noticeable) while he was cleaning? Oh well...he assured me that our fireplace was in good working order and suggested they return in 2 years (we only use it a max of twice a week in the winter and tend to use the 3-hour logs that don't give off as much gunk as real wood). I will definitely call them again...but next time I will be more specific about the nature of the inspection I want up front.

They arrived on-time and performed the work quickly and efficiently. They took the glass front off of the fireplace and cleaned the chimney, making sure that no dirt got inside the house. They then put everything back together quickly and carefully. I will use their service again next year when I need another inspection.

All of the chimney liners were installed well. On one chimney they repaired the deteriorated mortar and their mortar joints dropped. Top Hat was responsive to this problem.
