I think the email I sent to the company pretty much sums up my experience:
I had two other companies come out to my property today. As a young, single girl.. I am very unfamiliar with a lot of the larger appliances in my home and with a purchase as large as 6k, I wanted a second and third opinion. You can imagine that I was extremely confused and alarmed when the two companies, both of whom had no idea that I had invited anyone else out to my house and were therefore making their own diagnosis, went completely against what Greg recommended. While their opinions differed from Greg’s, they both came to the same conclusion.
I was not out of Freon, like Greg suggested. Nor was my blower shot. The only thing that had gone bad on my unit was the motor, which was about a $500 fix and would help get the unit to last another year or two. I didn’t stand beside Greg as he looked at my unit, so I made sure to stand by these two gentlemen as they did their work. I did not see any of the issues that Greg pointed out. In fact, my unit was freezing over, which suggests that it had more than enough Freon to do its job if the motor had been working properly (as the technicians confirmed when I finally did tell them what Greg had supposedly seen and recommended).
My unit is 21 years old. I know that I will have to replace it in the next year or two, and had Greg provided me with an honest assessment and fixed my unit so that it could run today and I could save up for the unit rather than having an unexpected expense of 6k, I would have been more than happy to go with your company for the replacement as well as the repair. Because of his dishonesty, I am choosing to go with a different company who had the decency to diagnose the problem accurately rather than trying to upsell me on a new unit and scare me into thinking the repair would cost me thousands of dollars. The company who fixed my unit today did it for $550. Greg told me the only way to get it working was to add almost a thousand dollars of freon, change the motor, change the blower and swap out the compressor.
I am absolutely disgusted by this! I wouldn't recommend this company to my worst enemy. These business practices are appalling. I hope that this it isn't a selling strategy with all their employees.
