After initially balking at the distance to my place and indicating he could not honor this purchased deal, the owner later abruptly offerred to come on short notice. He brought another worker to repair 2 holes (each about 1 foot in diameter) in my drywall.  My observation was that the second worker did nothing of substance, but his presence resulted in the time being reduced to 1.5 hours, and then requiring double pay for the remaining 2 and 1/2 hours the job required.  The workers appeared to take numerous breaks, and I considered the resulting charges to be overpriced and the work to be somewhat inconsistent, although adequate.

This was a coupon purchase deal.  The drywall holes were patched well, the plaster ceiling, not so much.  The contractor rescheduled several times saying "I forgot" as an excuse, and when he did finally arrive, he smelled strongly of alcohol.

Did not do good finish work. Head worker smelled of alcohol. I would not have them back.
Response from Pittsburgh Painter's Guild
"sometimes the chemicals used for this work is zinseer it can linger on materials and smell like alcohol, but as the owner i have spoken to the crew to make sure this is not an issue.i appreciate the feedback and the chance to improve any part of the work we do for our customers.if member would have talked to us about the finish work while there we would have been able to address her concerns,we always want to leave every customer satisfied with the work we do."

It was an Angie's List Big Deal that we purchased. It turned out well. They were very friendly and very professional. They cleaned up very nicely. The wallpaper had been there for over 40 years and he told me they might have to come back because of the time it would take. He got all the wallpaper off and told me how to get the glue off so I didn't have to call them back. He told me what to buy to get the paper off and then they did everything else to dilate the stuff. They painted it on the walls, peeled off the wallpaper and scraped off anything additional. He showed me the areas that I would need to patch. He said he would come back if I wanted him to patch, sand and get the rest of the glue off. The pricing was great. He was late but he stayed a little bit extra.

Steve maybe a great painter, but he is not much on replacing drywall.
I had people out to provide quotes on replacing a single 3' x 8' drywall panel, with wholes needed for electric box, water lines, drain and vanity light cable.  I was told it would take at most 1-2 hours to put up and another 1 hour to mud and paint.
I called steve, after purchasing the deal and he came and looked at the project and agreed it would fall within the 3 hour time i had purchased.  Well not so.
Steve forgot to cut several wholes, measured incorrectly and i had to assist with recutting the drywall.  Once the single panel was screwed on, i was told the 3 hours had run out and he had forgotten to cut a whole for the drain, no mudding was done and i have now been left with an incomplete job, which is actually worse then before the job began.
Steve is a nice enough fellow, but i am really upset, he did state painting is he specialty, but i paid for drywall and i did not get my moneys worth.
Will not use again.

We had purchased a deal for help after removing wallpaper from a bedroom- part of the ceiling/corner was damaged and we needed help with paste removal.  We were not in any hurry but when Steve called a few days later and offered to start the job, we were a little surprised.  He offered to come over within a few hours time (on a Sunday morning!).  I think we expected the services to be provided by a "guild" of professional painters, but its actually a clever use of Steve's surname- Guild.  We ended up getting a lot more work done than originally anticipated- the bedroom prepped and painted and our dining room repainted.  Steve was always enthusiastic and willing to do any extra work- which is probably why he was not always on time- he really gets into his work and puts in extra time as needed.  While it wasn't a problem for us as retirees, if we were still working time critical jobs, it would have been an issue.  We were pleased with the work, the cost, all of the helpful suggestions for our next project, and the attention to neatness and clean up.

Steve and Rick are true gentleman and did their best to help me with decisions about paint, hinges etc.
The kitchen looks great and so do the garage door, front door and porch. They made sure that the cracked and peeling paint on the
garage door was completely scraped and melted off before painting. They even used an artist's brush to do the dental mold atop the front door. Their motto is" "No brush strokes".

He did some work the first day and I had to ask him not to come back.  First day he didn't show up.  Next day I paid him and he worked.  The next day I had to call him to see if he was coming, he didn't show up. After that we decided not to have him back. He was very indecisive in the work that he did.  The wallpaper came down easily, then he scraped, then there was a problem he had to add chemical and I didn't let him get to the painting. He brought some one else on the job and charged me $35/hour.  I didn't know I was going to pay the additional prices.

"This member purchased a big deal for $111 and ran out of funds for the completion of the job. we waited and waited and waited for 3 1/2 mouths for the member to call back. turned out he got a job at the local honey moon Chinese restaurant. restaurant owner had called me at 12:23 at night and informed me that he wouldn't be able to pay the end amount to finish job. But we respect him for trying to pay the end amount. also member was Bad mouthing Angies list."

I used an Angie's List Big Deal special offer for this service and they were very good. I spent a little additional over the Big Deal but they explained it all ahead of time so it was not a big surprise. The called and came out within two weeks. We thought they were wonderful.
Response from Pittsburgh Painter's Guild
"thank you member we kept as busy as possible we were there to repair one wall thats all/ but being the house was on the market for 6 months with no genuine buyers we washed the gutters cleaned and sealed the brick in the problem area fixed the cracks on entry area of the porch floor and applied new epoxy over the whole area of versitone all this and more to try to help gain interest from potential buyers. our job was only to fix the wall but we had to wait for the plaster to dry so in the meantime instead of sitting around wasting time we chose to help the homeowner with a few small projects to help in the curb appeal of there home. thats the difference when you deal with pleasant customers. thank you members good luck with the sale of your home"

He was over an hour late, but he did a good job on the removal of the wallpaper. When the 3 hours were used up from the Big Deal, I paid him hourly for 2 more. The job was half finished, but I didn't ask him to come back. I finished it myself.
Response from Pittsburgh Painter's Guild
"member wallpaper removal job wasnt completed because member ran out of money and could only afford 2 more hours project would have required 1 more hour i would have taken change it all spends the same THANK YOU member for your comments"

The job didn't go as smoothly as I had hoped. There were some scheduling issues at the start with them saying they don't service my area. They eventually did come out and the job took much longer than I felt it should have, for what I had hired them to do.
Response from Pittsburgh Painter's Guild
"members wallpaper was applied over unprimed substrate which is a nightmare to remove all areas had to be skimmed.so inturn job took twice as long. if member was intelegent enough to realize this he could have stopped the job anytime he felt it was taking to long. when he needs help the next time ill remember to bring my magic wand love tinkerbell."
