I have used Bill Helmken on numerous plumbing projects from outside valve replacement at the curb to hot water tank replacements and new plumbing fixtures install, as i have a real estate business hence many plumbing projects. I have to say, Bill charges a bit above average but he does show up when he tells you he would. The very big disappointment for me came the first time he needed to cover and honor the warranty on his work. The work work was supposed to be inspected by a city of Pittsburgh inspector. So after the inspector failed his work, Bill refused to correct it as it was going to cost him too much money, even though we had a written contract describing the work. I had to hire a lawyer and spend unnecessary amount of money in order for him to complete the contracted and already paid work. Today, 5/19/2018, one of his gas hot water tanks that he installed, only 4 years old, failed, the electric pilot wouldn't lid. I got a hold of the manufacturer "state water heaters" and through series of troubleshooting steps they determined that the pilot kit is faulty and they issued an authorization #, the part needed to be picked up at one of the wholesale plumbing supplies stores but here is the catch, it needs to be the registered master plumber who installed your tank. So i called Helmken plumbing and the secretary suggested to replace the whole tank as it will be easier, my response was that I don't want to replace a 4 year old tank. Then she said she would talk to Bill about it. After 10 minutes she called me back to say that they can't pick up the part as they don't get involved with warranties to which i responded that the plumbing supply place would only give it to them as they were the installers. She replied that they don't make the tanks and hang up the phone on me.

This is the second time I have used Helmken Plumbing. Bill again provided quality work and the price was very reasonable. In July 2015 I had valves and a regulator replaced in my basement. Today I had leaking pipes on my bathroom sink replaced. I would highly recommend them and I will definitely use them again for my plumbing needs!

In our humble opinions: "Bill Helmken's work is shoddy at best.  He walked off of the job and didn't complete it.  Evidently, he got into a disagreement with the general contractor.  He didn't finish the work he contracted for and never called us to let us know.  We never heard from him again, until he tried to file a mechanic's lien against us for the contractor not paying him.  The work he did finish we are having problems with.  One of the things Bill Helmken did was to run plumbing lines to our new laundry room.  The problem is the lines were not secured properly behind the walls and rattle severely throughout the addition when the washer is turned on.  He also rerouted a flue for the furnace that sticks out onto the basement floor.  Bill Helmken, installed the gas supply line incorrectly into the laundry room as well.  A portion of the fitting that goes into the floor is covered by baseboard and drywall.  He didn't install the overflow pipe in the right position for the laundry tub, this had to be redone.  Really stupid and such an inexperienced thing to do.  There are other things that need to be rectified before a final inspection can be approved as well. 
Bill Helmken walked away from our job and then he and his attorney have tried to file a mechanics lien against us because the general contractor didn't pay him.  Stay away from Helmken plumbing as they do not complete their contracted work and the work that they actually finish isn't done in a professional workmanlike manner.  We would not recommend him or Mike Buczkowski general contractor as neither person has any pride in what they do.  "

"Our company was caught in the middle of a sub-standard general contractor (who did not provide detailed blueprints) and an overbearing homeowner (who has repeatedly left unfavorable reviews on many different websites). We made our intentions very clear to the general contractor of our intent to finish the project, but was not allowed to return to finish due to our refusal to begin the general contractor's other projects elsewhere. I am disheartened that this oppressive homeowner is angry toward our company as a result of this general contractor's ineptitude."
