Great work done. On time and professional.

The sidewalk turned out nicely. Rick was helpful suggesting ways to do other jobs we asked about also.

It didn't go.  I have no estimate.  If he didn't want to do it, he should have just said so or phoned later to tell me.  Instead, it's like he never even came out and I still have no estimate and no new sidewalk.

First and only step from the front porch, along with the pad it was part of were sinking, relative to the porch, creating an unsafe stepping distance.
Rick visited site and provided quote within a week or so of being called (during busy season of August).
Provided service by late September.  Showed up on time as promised. 
Quality work.  Drilled holes into based of front porch to connect the new step/pad to the porch with rebar.
Trustworthy -- provided logical guidance on driveway pock-marks.  Did not try and sell me on redoing the driveway or any other major repairs. Called him originally from a neighbor's recommendation who liked his work.  Would hire again next time we need concrete work.

Rick Shively did an excellent job on our project.  He called back promptly within about a day or two after we initially contacted him, and scheduled an appointment to come out to our house to make an estimate.  He was always courteous, well-mannered, and professional in his communications and dealings with my wife and myself.  He and his son performed very meticulous work, taking their time with the layout, site prep, leveling/grading, and pouring of concrete, and made the place tidy upon cleanup.   He met the schedule as promised and was even a bit ahead of schedule, but If you are looking for someone to come in and quickly slap down some concrete as a rush job in a sloppy manner, this is not the person for you.  You get what you pay for in terms of service and quality with Rick, and it seemed that his estimate for the work completed was as reasonable as expected and/or on-par with the prevailing rates in Pittsburgh.   The end product looks great and of high-quality concrete materials and construction, and is appropriately sloped for drainage.  I'd definitely hire Rick again for a future project that we have in mind.

As an aside, for the sake of comparison:    We had contacted a number of other concrete businesses (from Angie's list) to get quotes.  Probably about 6 or 7 of them altogether.  Most of them didn't even bother to call back... absolutely no response despite leaving multiple phone messages and some internet web form messages. Another concrete contractor came out, spent a considerable amount of time measuring, promised us an estimate, left our place, didn't call back, and then when I contacted him a few days later he said that the job was too small for him (???? I'm mystified why he didn't just tell us that up front).  Rick Shively will not do that to you; he will give you a prompt and professional estimate and an honest assessment for the schedule of work completion.  

It was quite obvious Rick has years of experience pouring concrete AND he really strives to meet and exceed the customers expectations.  I only wish it was a little easier to reach Rick on the first call, but he is very busy AND he always returned my calls.   That little issue was easily overlooked when I look back at the excellent work he and his team did.   I will definitely use him again AND recommend him to friends.

Rick's team did an exceptional job providing options as part of the estimate and then making my preferences fit into the scope of work.

Rick was referred to me by my neighbor, who is a perfectionist. It turned out that Rick is truly wonderful. He and his crew worked diligently on the work and make the drive way so beautiful. Also Rick is very patient when he was trying to explain things to me. I will use him again in the future!

I cannot say enough about Rick. He is the best contractor I have ever hired. He was on time, did the work with his crew, was very professional, explained everything along the way and was at our home every day until the job was complete. The final result was a perfect patio. What more could we have asked for....a job very well done. Anyone looking for concrete work such as a walkway, driveway, patio, stairs, sidewalk etc....Rick is the only person you need to call.
