45 years of experience

I have been employed in the carpentry trades for 33 years. I started as a young man in my fathers construction business, Carl Haines Construction. We did contruction from varying from new homes to remodeling and renovations. Because of the rural area that we lived in we did outside work involving farms and the type of outbuildings and sheds that were needed. I moved my family to South Carolina and I established my business there working on various beach homes. We did alot of fine woodwork on stairs and railings along with all the other types of construction mentioned. I did work that was featured in the "Southern Living" Magazine. I am pleased to be back in Pennsylvania again serving the area I and my wife grew up in. I currently employ 2 other carpenters and have at my disposal parttime help for larger jobs. I do use some sub contractors for such Items as electrical, heating and cooling, and crane services which must be hired to meet various building codes. My billing requirements are that materials be paid upfront, with labor being paid in weekly or bi-weekly payments with final payment upon completion of the work . Terms to be decided at the beginning of the work.

We do most everything affiliated with home improvement. We're a family owned business with 4-6 employees at times. Depending on work, we require one-third of total job up front for labor and materials, and the remainIng two-thirds upon completion of the work. Sometimes people need smaller jobs done and it can be cheaper to pay by the hour. In this case work is performed at the rate of $35/hr for the contractors services plus $10-$15/hr per laborer plus the cost of material. We don't subcontract any of our work out. We have coupons and specials running year round. You can fInd and print the coupons out on the WNEP16 county by county website.

Eifs Installers questions, answered by experts

It’s common for the edges of new sod to turn brown, especially if they run up against heat-absorbing surfaces like driveways, rocks, or pavers. You can fix this problem with more concentrated watering at the edges of the lawn as it takes root. However, continuing brown problems or brown areas on the inside of the lawn are signs of a problem. The lawn could need more water, or the young grass could be under attack from fungi or other diseases.

In the right market, a putting green in the backyard can add value to your property. You can reap an estimated 40 percent return on the investment.  Other than that, the value of a place to practice and play at home depends solely on your love of the game and desire to improve.

Most professionals can install some putting greens in between one day and one week, but it depends on the size of the project and the complexity of the design. A small, simple putting green can take only a day to install, while a 2,000-foot-green with hills, slopes, and other challenging site features can take over a week. A DIY installation on flat, level ground will take a few days.

An outdoor putting green will last five to 15 years with proper maintenance. Keeping artificial turf clean or sod trimmed is essential for a long-lasting outdoor putting green, so expect to spend some time on upkeep. Although sunlight, rain, and snow can wear down the putting green, regular turf maintenance, like cleaning up debris and replacing worn-out sections, can extend the life of your green to hit that 15-year mark.

Typical playing greens on professional circuits are around 1,000 to 1,500 square feet. But it’s not likely that you’ll be trying to hit it from 200 yards out—most residential putting greens range from 200 to 600 square feet. A small DIY putting green kit is around 100 square feet; a good option if you're tight on space.
