I brought my computer into Xpert Computer on June 27 because of a review I read on Angie’s List.  The comment said the work was usually done by the next day.  The owner said the same to me.  My computer had stopped working, and he would be in touch in the next day or two to let me know what was wrong.  I should point out here that in the time these people had my computer, they never called me with an update.  I always had to take the initiative.   After a couple of weeks, I finally called to find out what was going on.  They told me it was very dirty.  They had to take it outside to clean it.  Also, it needed a new motherboard.  He sounded like that news should finish the deal.  I told him I wanted a new motherboard because all my information was on that computer and I didn’t want to lose it.  So, reluctantly, he agreed to get a new motherboard.   After a few more weeks with no updates, I called again.  This time they acted like they didn’t know me and had no idea what I was talking about.  I told them the history to-date and said I would call back tomorrow so they could have some time to find it.  It took me a couple of days to call back.  When I did, I was told the exact same thing the first time – the computer was dirty and needed a new motherboard.  I said this is what they told me two or three weeks ago!  The owner blamed it on a bad employee he had had to fire, which seemed implausible.  So, he would order the new motherboard.   A few more weeks went by.  When I called, I was told that my computer was old and that the motherboard they had ordered didn’t work.  They would have to get another motherboard.   Again time passed.  When I called I was told that the second motherboard didn’t work either.  I was thinking that it was surprising how parts suppliers could stay in business when the parts they sold didn’t work.  So, he was now all for just tossing the computer.  I reminded him of the data I wanted from it.  So, he said he would do that.  I came back a few days later and a very young boy showed me that he was working on it, and that it should be ready the next day.   Of course, it wasn’t ready, but I was assured they would download the data.  So, I waited a few more days and then went into the shop.  The owner came out and said the data wouldn’t fit on a CD so he would have to use this little USB nubby (I don’t know the name of the thing) that cost $30 – but he would only charge me $25.  I couldn’t believe my ears.  I said I wanted the data…period.  I don’t care what it’s on.  He already knew one would work and one wouldn’t.  Why would he make my come in to select which one to use if the choice was limited to one thing anyway?  I told that as there was no choice to use the USB thing.  This was Tuesday, September 3rd.   Finally, on Wednesday, September 4th, I got my computer back with a data downloaded.  I was charged for the USB thing and the download – a total of $67.84.  For what?   A computer that doesn’t work. A computer that was out of my possession for 70 days/10 weeks. And a USB thing that I don’t have a computer to download it on.   I should add that my son-in-law called him on 9/3, at which time he was promised that the computer would be ready the next day.  He had asked to talk to the owner, Joe.  The owner said his name was Stanley, and that Joe was the owner more than a year ago.  However, when I brought my computer in, the owner identified himself as Joe, which I wrote down along with the phone number.   Another detail, in order to be absolutely honest, the times I contacted the store was divided between using the telephone and actually driving all the way over there.  I just can’t remember which contacts were which.

$90
Picked up laptop, paid my $90 and went home.
I used the laptop later that day and shut down as usual that night.
Turned on laptop next morning and Windows was updating.
3 hours later Windows was still updating. I called Xpert and dropped it off later that day.
Picked it up later that day and Stanley showed what was wrong and then said "no charge"
Very
pleased with Xpert and will definitely use them again and recommend to everyone.
