I went in to get a quote and theirs seemed to be the cheapest. I also liked all of their fireplaces. They were cheaper by a few hundred dollars than a couple other companies that I looked at. They did not have their own contractors. They told me one of their sub-contractors would call me. He called me back a few days later and he said he was in the area and if it was ok for him to drop in to see what had to be done. I told him yes. I also got a quote from what the person at Chimney charm had given me on what the estimate of the sub-contractor should charge. He came over and started measuring. He was considerate. He took off his shoes. He then wrote some things down. I explained everything that I wanted done. He didn't write me up a contract at all neither in the beginning or the end of the job. About a week later he had called me and told me he was too busy to do the job when I wanted it done. He said if i wanted it done that soon, that he couldn't do it and to call someone else if I didn't want to wait. He then called me a few days later and told me the job was going to be 1600 dollars instead of the 850.00 I was quoted from the company itself. I was really upset and when I asked him why it was so much, he said that he couldn't tell me or give me a break down of the price because the price is what it is. I told him I was the customer and I had the right to know. I then hung up and began my search for another contractor, but could not find one. I then got very tired of hearing the run around from other contractors saying that they don't work in the area or they only install certain fireplace brands. Anyways, to make a long story short, I ended up calling this guy named Shawn back that gave me the 1600 dollar quote. I figured I would just save my self more headaches. Then it was a nightmare because he told me that he would call me back in a few weeks because he was "busy " and then after he got done with one thing, he was going to go on vacation. He finally called me back weeks later. We scheduled it for Saturday since he was too busy on the weekdays to do it. He is a "last minute " type of guy. He called the same day and said i'm going to bring the fireplace over. I told him that i wasn't home. I ended up having a friend meet him over there so he could drop off the fireplace the day before he came over to install it. He came over and and dropped off the fireplace and my friend had to tell them to take the box the fireplace came in because Shawn didn't want to take it. The next day came and they were a little late, but here. He brought a worker for half the day to help him out. The other worker, was more busy playing with his cell phone, than concentrating on the work he was supposed to be doing. Anyways, the job ended up costing me more because Shawn miscalculated on the pipeing and told me that Chimney charm would be sending me a bill in the mail that was over 100 dollars. Anyways, at about 6 pm , he was almost done with the job or so I thought. He told me he was going to knock some money off of the price because he got done in one day instead of two. So instead of charging me 1600 dollars he said he would knock it down to 1100.00. I asked him if he was done, and he said yes. I trusted him. He did say that the fan to the fireplace did not come in so he would have to come back in a week. I trusted him and paid him in full which was a huge mistake. He cleaned up the basement where he put the fireplace really good. I told him he had to take all of the garbage and everything else with him. I ended up looking around and realized he didn't take his mess. I had to get rid of the junk and also clean up the side of the house. My cable wires that were neatly tucked under my siding, were now hanging down. The main electrical wire had to be moved to accomodate the exhaust for the fireplace. he didn't clean the siding up either. It was very dirty. Then I realized that the fireplace was not working after Shawn had left. So now there were 3 things that had to be finished. The cable wires had to be put back under the siding, there was a short in the main wire for the fireplace that made it impossible to use. Number three, he had to come back with my blower fan for the fireplace. So , a few weeks later , I finally got in touch with him and he was supposed to come down and never showed. I then called the owner of CHimney charm. I told him I was unhappy with Sean and that he never showed up and kept giving me the run around. I told him I didn't want him there anymore. Kevin told me that he has to come there to finish the work. SO Kevin called Shawn and told him to call me within 24 hours and I waited for 3 days. Shawn never called. So I called Kevin again and he made it look like Shawn was an angel and that I was the problem. I told Kevin that I had waited over a month and I wanted the blower and other work done by the end of the week. Again, he told me that he would call Shawn again and have him come over even after i told him again i didn't want him there, but someone else.. So finally , the last minute guy, Shawn, finally called. He asked me if he could come over and get the work done. I asked him if he was going to actually show up and he said that he would. He said that he was "sorry he forgot the last time to show up, but he was with his kids somewhere". He also never called me back to tell me that. So he finally did the work and that was end of it. I was very unhappy overall . Don't let Shawn Delhagen anywhere near your home or business. He is so irresponsible. I have yet to come across someone like him. I've had many contractors over my house before, but not like this one. I wouldn't recommend him to anyone. If you want someone who doesn't care then call him. I was dissapointed that his boss made me feel like i was the problem. Overall, spend a few hundred more and go with someone else.
