Country Contractors LLC

A man going by the name Jack Cashion from Country Contractors came by to give us an estimate. It was high, but he assured us his work was good. We gave him a deposit of $5000. He applied for and got the work permit from the township, however, the permit cost was pretty high because his estimate was high. We were advised to scale down the job. We called Jack and asked if we could revise the total estimate and he said yes. He was supposed to come to our house several times, but never did. Then he stopped returning phone calls. We filed a complaint in the state of NJ, where we live. NJ passed the buck to PA, where Cashion lives. We filed a complaint there and the state attorney general was pursuing it. He called Cashion in to tell him that he didn't write a proper contract in the first place. There was no cancellation clause and thereby, he should give us our money back. Cashion replied that he would, then had his lawyer send a letter to the PA AG saying he threatened Cashion (he didn't, we were on the call), and he wasn't paying anyone. The AG backed down so we were out of luck, unless we wanted to sue Cashion in civil court. We decided it wouldn't be worth it because we'd be unlikely to recoup much of the money. We learned a valuable lesson from this and finally had firsthand dealings with what people would describe as a "shady contractor". Now we know. Do NOT use anyone going by the name Jack Cashion or Country Contractors.
