I hired Jamie Berdar’s company for a full home renovation. He took a large sum of money and didn't complete the work or purchase the materials for which it was intended. We’re still trying to clean up his trail of slime. Everything was OK at first. Jamie took a draw from our renovation loan, performed demo work, reframed walls, and ordered our kitchen flooring and cabinets. When it came time to order more than $10K worth of windows for the entire house, plus bathroom flooring and bathroom fixtures, we trusted Jamie would use his next installment of our loan money to make the purchases and to finish the job as promised under our contract. (Due to the nature of our loan, we unfortunately couldn’t use the loan to directly pay for these materials ourselves). We also gave him a check for $2,000 from an insurance claim to replace our water heater and repair basement pipes after they were damaged. After a few weeks of waiting and getting misleading delivery status updates about all of the above, it became painfully clear that Jamie never ordered the materials and was never going to. Instead, he pocketed our money. On top of all this, we had to hire a plumber and an electrician to perform safety checks and redo much of the work Jamie personally did.
