Lew the Foneman

We have had intermittent outages in our phone service due to shorts in our internal wiring.  FIOS outside line was OK.  Called Verizon twice and service techs checked connections but did not correct problem.  Phone service only worked for a day or so.  When Lew arrived he checked all inside lines, identified the short;  then he went to all line jacks and into the attic to trace the wiring.  After eliminating some extra wires that were disconnected, and double checking all inside wires, Lew located a good pair that could work.  He connected this pair to the outside line and service was restored.  Lew was honest in saying that if anything went bad with this inside pair we would have to have the house rewired.  So far the repair has worked without a hitch.
I consider Lew a true expert in this area.  He knew what he was doing and kept at it until he found a solution.  Also his charge was much lower than I was expecting  considering the time he spent climbing into the attic and testing each phone connection outlet multiple times.  Highly recommended.

I had switched to a cable digital service for my house phone.  Apparently the cable installation tech cut out half my house which I discovered when the alarm company called to tell me my line was dead.  Called the cable company who sent out four "techs" to fix the problem.  They failed and restored the half for the alarm but cut out the other half of the house.  In other words, they were totally inept.  I read the reviews here and called Lew Doss who came two days later right on time.  The man is a marvel!!!  He fixed what the cable men had fouled up and showed me how they hadn't even used nuts to tie wires together, only twisting them, then didn't even lock the outside box closed.  I was lucky that it hadn't rained because ever thing would have shorted.

Can't say enough good things about Lew-if you need phone help, call him!!

Excellent service and responsiveness. Called Mr. Doss at 8:30 in the morning, he seemed to understand and suspect what the problem was within minutes, came out to the house by mid-morning, and completed the repair in 10-15 minutes! He is very knowledgeable, professional, and absolutely knows what he's doing! I wouldn't hesitate to use his services for any telephone related problem. Very responsive and very reasonable!

Lew is not just the Foneman, he is the affible phone genius.  He not only fixed the problem he got static out of the system we had lived with for 20 years.  I will never call the phone company again.  i'll call Lew, who by the way responds faster and explains everything he is doing and has state of the art equipment the phone companies don't have.  A great experience! I paid him more than he charged because it was worth so much more to me.

Lew seemed very knowledgeable and patiently answered all of my questions and explained what he was doing. He was able to come out the following day after I called him and the cost was reasonable. He was a genuinely nice guy that I  would hire again without hesitation.

Absolutely super.  It was a simple job and done during the first visit.  Efficient and professional.  Highly recommended for phone and data work.

Lew is friendly, knowledgable and arrived on-time, only 1 day after I called.  He quickly performed trouble-shooting, determined and fixed the problem, did some preventive maintenance, and fixed the wall jack.

Making contact was a little awkward... no reply by email (though I emailed him), only talking over by phone.  But... I always find making the initial contact to be a little bit awkward.  In the end, he came on time and got the job done, so no problems.  He was also flexible regarding the timing, which was nice.

Lew was very punctual, fast and reasonably priced.  He clearly stated wha his costs are, and confirmed when he would be arriving.

I has moisture in a wall with phone jacks that were causing a problem to
my entire house's phones. Verizon had not been helpful. Angie's led me
to Lew Doss.  While he could not fish wiring to move the jack,  so he
waterproofed the jack connections instead. A quick and easier solution
which worked. Mr. Doss is an experienced technician, good diagnostician,
patient and kind. He will explain things clearly and fix them if he can
or put you on the right track to a solution.

It went really great. Lew walked me through the entire process and allowed me to watch and ask questions as he was doing the work. He was very professional and efficient, and was done in under 30 minutes. We would definitely use him again if we have phone work that needed done.

.. I selected the phone man to repair to Jack's for a new telephone system I had acquired. I called the number in the listing, actually I got it from the website, and Mr. Goss came very quickly to my home. He was very professional and obviously had a great deal of experience and knowledge of all matters relating to telephones. He repaired to telephone jacks which required service because one had defective and the other was not functioning properly. The work was performed quickly and efficiently and the price was very reasonable.

Overall, the service was quick, affordable, professional and well-done.  And, it was all this despite the commotion caused by my large dog (who was barking his head off in a crate, doing his best Cujo impersonation, for the entire duration of the repair work).  I suspect another repair person would have been intimidated -- perhaps even terminating the repair earlier than it should have been.

I found Lew via Angie's List and sent him an e-mail requesting his service. He was quick to respond, and we promptly setup an appointment for the upcoming weekend. He showed up 30 minutes prior, a welcomed sign especially after dealing with other companies recently whom have been consistently late. I showed him the work that needed to be done, including crawling underneath my house. He was not intimidated by the job, and was very knowledgable of the work preformed. He completed the work in a timely manner, and cleaned up after himself. From a personal standpoint, being in the military myself, I found it quite enjoyable to speak with him about his prior military service while he was doing his work. He was polite, and overall a decent phone tech with a great deal of experience to have around. I would definitely recommend his services to any of my friends whom need phone repair/replacement work. Upon completion he notified me of his work guarantee, something I did not expect at all, and even followed up with an e-mail a week later to ensure everything was still in working order. My only regret is not having submitted my A+ review for this gentlemen sooner.

Lew was very personable and knowledgeable. He was not intimidated by my old wiring or old phone jacks. The possibility of working underneath my unit in spite of asbestos did not deter him. I would recommend him in a heartbeat as his rates are very fair and his compassionate nature makes him a great asset to one's life. He is exactly the kind of person I want to work with.

You don't want to hear a rant about Verizon and the way they can't make appointments, can't keep appointments, won't give you any information, show up unannounced and wreck the service they'd already restored, are rude on the phone, etc., etc., etc.! I was finally able to determine that the outside lines that belong to and are maintained by Verizon had been repaired, and the only problem(s) remaining were in the wires inside my house, which I must pay to have repaired. Then I was inspired to realize that I didn't have to hire Verizon to fix my wires; I could hire anyone! So I called Lew Goss because he was the closest phone repairman listed in Yellowpages.com. He called me back within an hour of my leaving a message, and we arranged that he would come to my house that evening after I arrived home from work. I phoned him again at about 8:00 PM and he was on his way. He'd been delayed by a job that took longer than expected. As I said above, he rigged a phone wire from my box to an emergency jack and plugged in one phone and my computer, so at least I had phone and DSL service again. It was too late in the evening to do more. He said he could come back on Thursday or Friday, but he had some commercial jobs to work on and would rather return on Saturday. That suited me fine, because I didn't want to take time off from work. He came promptly on Saturday morning and got right to work fixing the wires and jacks as described above. He didn't take a single break! He did stop, however, to explain to me what he was doing. When he needed to drill the hole in the bedroom floor, he asked me for something to kneel on so he wouldn't get mud on the carpet. He told me more about phone lines than I'd ever imagined there was to know, and described and demonstrated what he'd tested to make sure everything was working. It was obvious that he knew exactly what he was doing and was doing a quality job. Then he only wanted to charge me to install one jack, repair two jacks, and repair the wiring, which came to only $200! I insisted on paying the trip charges for the two trips he'd made to my house, so that added $90 to the bill. Considering that Verizon had sent a guy two weeks previously who hadn't finished the repairs, and that charge was $193, I felt that I was getting a bargain. Probably best of all was dealing with a competent professional who did what was needed, instead of dealing with that $%^&* Verizon. It was such a relief to get Verizon out of my hair and get the job done. I was so happy I told Lew that if we'd been better acquainted, I would have hugged him! If you ever need phone repairs, Lew is the guy to call!
