We called David from the store on the day we purchased the piano.  My wife and I know very little about pianos, but it was a used piano and it was a steal, so we needed prompt delivery.  David said he could do the job in the right time frame (within 3 days) and for a good price ($150).  David claims that my wife said that the piano was a spinet while she was talking to him.  I heard her talking to several movers on the phone and she used upright in her description to all of them.  However, lets just assume that David is right.  As I paid for the piano, she talked to David to make arrangements.

She emailed David later with the addresses, the receipt number and indicated very clearly that it was an upright.  David called on Monday night and talked to me.  We reviewed the plan and as we were talking, I made sure that David had discussed the hill leading to my basement door.  He said "it would not be a problem".

The piano was delivered today.  The timing was in the window discussed.  The piano appears to be in good shape.  Apparently, David and his team were polite and helpful, right up until it came time for payment.  It was $100 more than the estimate and they were not going to finish the delivery unless she paid.  They charged $75 because it was not a spinet and they charged $25 because they needed to use the big dolly on the back hill.  David is paid. The piano is fine.

I called back, after reviewing my wife's email to confront him over the hundred bucks.  He was notified on both of the things he charged extra for.  If he knew it was going to cost us over 60% more for all of the "extras" was it not the professional thing to do to let us know?  I can understand small differences over an estimate.  But to demand that kind of difference before you complete the job is unprofessional.
