VON KENSINGER ROOFING

We were referred to Kensinger Roofing by a real estate agent when we needed an estimate on replacing the porch roof during a house purchase. We were satisfied with the estimate and Mr. Kensinger offered a lifetime warranty on their work. This seemed more than reasonable. We offered the work to Mr. Kensinger and he visited the house to work out the details. I did not keep a journal, but this seemed about early May. He provided the dimensions of the present skylight when I said I wanted to replace them due to their age and being outdated. I was told to find replacement skylights at a local supplier, based on the dimensions I was given. In the following weeks I selected similar curb mounted design, about a foot longer with similar width. I called and left messages about the size I selected to make sure it would work, and received no response. This was one of several phone messages I left with Mr. Kensinger about the job and the skylights. Then one evening we received a call saying the crew would arrive the next day. We were in the process of moving our things in and I stopped by to find the crew already at work about 8:30 or so the next day. Apparently, Mr. Kensinger had given his directions and left. He was not available. It was not until the crew left when they finished the job the next day that I saw that the new skylights were installed with their base at the same location as the smaller ones they replaced, and they came up all they way up to the level of the soffet inside the porch. They were not mounted on center but were "pushed up",to the upper end of the porch ceiling. This was not what I had in mind. I was not involved in this decision and it was not possible to see all of what they were doing until they were done, because they did not do any inside work and the porch inside panel obscured where the upper end of the skylight would be located. This was not what I wanted and I was never asked. Also, if there was a problem with the skylights I ordered for the job I was never informed. And there was no fixing the problem because it was a rubber roof, not shingles, which could be moved around. I have worked with contractors who work with you, and some who don't. This one showed up with little notice, didn't bother to call or contact me when the job was starting and said nothing while his crew worked on the job. The roof has not leaked, but I've had to work with and pay a finish carpenter to get it to look more like it should inside. My advice would be to make sure you get Mr. Kensinger to speak with you when the crew arrives and make sure you both agree about the details which you would think are obvious, like placing the skylights on center over the old location, rather than cutting corners by replacing only one end of the skylight frame.
