I looked up computer repair shops in both the yellow pages and on Angie's List. I decided to contact Tom's Help Desk. After calling Tom's Help Desk and verifying the address, the types of computers he works on and the cost of the repair estimate, I took my desktop PC to Tom's Help Desk on a Friday.

Tom was very helpful and pleasant. We discussed what I wanted and did not want done and what he suspected the trouble was. I specifically told him that if the motherboard was bad, he should not repair the PC as I would probably scrap the PC and get a new PC. If on the other hand it was the power supply, I would probably have it repaired.

Tom asked for my Windows password and I told him I didn't think he needed that. My computer does not have a start-up password. I was having no problem with the software, so as long as the computer displayed the Windows logon that was as far as I felt Tom needed to go. Tom had no problem with this.

Tom had several PCs to check before mine, so he said he would call back later that afternoon or early Saturday.

Saturday afternoon Tom called to let me know that the motherboard was the problem.

I picked my PC up on Tuesday and paid only the diagnostic fee.

Overall I was pleased with his service and would use him again if need be.

Note that I have not needed and not used any other computer repair services and therefore have no knowledge how Tom's Help Desk compares with other repair places.
