I received a reminder in the Spring from Deck Medics saying it was probably time for maintenance. I agreed and was glad that they reminded me. We set July as the target date. Well, of course, this year rains have altered the schedule of all outdoor work, so we re-targeted for early August. They called to ask if they could show up whenever the weather looked good and I absolutely agreed. So they chose the perfect days for power washing, letting the deck dry, and then the sanding and staining. As always they were prompt, efficient and professional. Sam even commented on how good their trim paint still looked from when it was done in the past. Yes, he was right.

Great. The Deck Medic team took great care in ensuring any plants, house, etc was not inadvertently stained. Very meticulous and professional. First time I contracted with someone rather than do it myself because of concern it wouldn’t meet my expectations. They exceeded them.

We contracted in late April 2018; signed the contract in early May with a 50% deposit; and were initially promised a circa Memorial Day completion date - approx 5 weeks out. An unusually rainy early summer created continued scheduling delays. To their credit, the owner continuously kept us up-to-date on their inability to start the job due to weather - totally understandable. They tried to schedule us in mid July; however, the week they planned was coincidentally our vacation week, and that would not work for us because all the client supplied deck boards, posts, rails and stain [my choice] were in our basement and inaccessible. Work began in earnest on July 26 and continued on and off hampered again by rainy weather until what they described as full completion on August 6th. Staining in advance of inspecting wood repairs prohibited walking on the deck for 48 hours thereafter. When the deck became accessible, I found 5 rotting deck boards that were not repaired, but stained over. A call to the owner got an immediate call back and on site visit. Unfortunately continued rainy weather prohibited full completion of all work until Oct 1st. I believe had it not been for the unusually rainy summer [we had over 25 inches of rain in a one month period beginning in early August], the deck would have been finished much sooner. Generally speaking, their carpenter work was good, and the staining and overall work site maintenance was meticulous. Their chief carpenter Sam was a joy to work with. I would have given the company higher marks in a couple of areas, but staining over obviously rotted deck boards caused me to downgrade them in overall quality and professionalism. I indicated I would use them again because of the 4 firms contacted [all Angie's List rated], one showed up but never got back with a quote, and 2 others never returned repeated phone calls to schedule an appointment to review the project. We find this is not unusual in our area or these days even with Angie's List listings and ratings, so a bird in the hand is definitely worth it. I gave them a N/A in the price as I do not know the relative competitiveness of their price. What I would do differently next time - if wood repairs are required, I will be more meticulous in reviewing completed work BEFORE any staining is done.

Owner Robert was a pleasure to deal with for the estimates. Then, I can hardly express how happy I am with how Sam and his son completed the work. Some health issues had distracted us from playing attention to what needed to be done until it was too late last year to do the work. As a result they needed to repair some places where the wood had rotted at the edges or corners. They did the repair work and scraped and sanded where needed to get the surfaces ready for new paint. They then brushed and sprayed as appropriate. The results made our house look so much better. Sam was thoroughly professional, super communicative, and took the initiative to deal with any issues that might have arisen. I can recommend them without qualification. I wish they did all kinds of work, I would hire them for everything.

Robert was a pleasure to deal with.  The price was fair and the work performed by Sam and Dustin was excellent.  All were very professional and pleasure to work with.  They were very neat and clean.  They ripped up the old deck and replaced in it in a very timely manner which only took a little over a week.  Nice work and great job would highly recommend.
